My theory is that Disney is waiting for the tech to get to a certain point and then either digitize the current print or shoot a new video/film.

You are probably correct. They could even go with multiple version of the movie. Having said that, the original would be tough beat. IMO the Soarin' film is a brilliant piece of art.

I don't think it should be made 3D. Sometimes, 3D film has a tendency to look unrealistic.

I do think different films should be made. Whilst they'd still have the California one, they could do an Asia or a Europe version. They would be just as impressive and something that many tourists had never seen before.

I think it would be really neat to fly through a bustling city street, in New York or London or Paris, etc

I have always thought a Soarin over America would be awesome! A little patriotism mixed in with the beautiful scenery in our country would be the perfect be film for Soarin!
