Sadly, this isn't a virus thing. I have McAfee constantly running on my PC. Its the hard drive.....old age.

Yup. That's what the message really says. :sad1:

I have two external hard drives here.

Spent the last two hours backing up ALL my docs on one of them and pictures on both. Thankfully, I've been backing up the pictures every 3 months anyway; so the last 3 months worth of pics *only* took 40 minutes to do.

I guess this means that I'm getting a new laptop. DH and I are going window shopping soon.
May I suggest a pretty, shiny Macbook Pro

Just taking a break...
Been packing...and I haven't even gotten to clothes yet :lmao:

Trying to fit most of the gifts in the carry on...
And then bubblewrapping, ziplock bagging, wrapping and boxing coke bottles and Chai tetra packs  To have them safely travel in the checked baggage...

It's lucky I love him....

Back hurties... :(
Of course NOTHING like you usnuz. This is taking forever!!

I just have one "dehydrated" disc so I just need to be careful.

I think it'll be a PC this time round...Dell, HP, Toshiba.

DH is going to get a Mac desktop to replace the Mac we already have. I'll play around on the new desktop and work out if I really do want to jump into the fruit for my next PC. It'll come down to how the Mac manages my pictures.

You pack early.

I'm tracking the rising dollar at $1.078. I might just be tempted to pay off my HKDL balance on Monday.

Gotta go. Gonna go look at PCs.

 Hi Lasters! Sorry I've been MIA, I worked Tues & Wed (13 hour shifts). Wed night DH finally agreed to a WDW trip in May!! :yay::yay: I spent yesterday planning flights, park days & ADRs. Took all afternoon today, but I've got everything all booked! :cool1: Just a quick 4 night trip, but I'm sooo happy.

Do we have a cartwheel or back flip smilie? That's what I feel like doing! :rotfl2: Guess I'll have to settle for a banana.

When are you going in May? We'll be there too!

That'll be a good test.
My DBF swears by Dell and all my office computers are Dell.

I feel like hurling one out the window at times but now we are all mostly on the 'faster' ones it's clear it's largely network issues. Plus compatibility and stability of our software on a PC.
[We'll not go fruit any time soon as some key programs aren't available on there but the 'new' tech guy we have does love the fruit.]

In terms of 'service' when things go wrong Dell gets major hits...but I only know what I read?

We have an old Toshiba (about 7 years old I guess?) laptop which was top of the line at the time and runs slow as a dog now. But it has never died.
It just really needs a major defrag and removal of unnecessary photos and large files using up the space.

You pack early.

Lol...I just want all the liquids sorted and to check weight.
I'm leaving the saturday and I don't ever feel like doing anything of much after work.

I'm thinking of getting some pounds on Monday too.
Where do you go??
I have a commbank travel card but I get a better rate at the money exchange at the train station for cash?? I'll feel a bit more secure having money on the card and it is easy as pie (although it doesn't have the magical chip). But just a bit frustrating.

What are you doing?

I'd stick with HP or Dell, and if you can, that is if your current PC can, wait for Windows 8. Rumors are suggesting it will be out in 4 to 8 months.

8 is what 7 should of been, but they rushed 7 out. Kind of like how the Iphone 4 is really just Iphone 3 with an app called Siri running on it.

8 may be an operating system like you have never seen before, revolutionizing the computer as we know it.

I tend to use the commbank travel card and transfer money.
I also buy cash...it depends. I have used commbank and also the money exchange, pending fees. I tend to just use commbank now....the money exchange has jacked up their fees.

I tend to carry a couple of hundred dollars worth in currency just to cover the first couple of days and emergencies. After that, I should be able to find a hole in the wall to take out money from the travel card.

I think it's going to be a Dell and the Windows 7. I don't think I can wait for 8. Besides, 7 will be heaps better than the Vista crap I'm currently running. :headache:

And Queenie....the MacBook Pro is twice the price of the Dell for the same configuration. I could get 2 tablets for the difference.

I thought 7 was what Vista was supposed to be :rotfl2:

I'm holding out with my 3 year old iphone for iphone 5... :rolleyes1

There's a 2 pound fee per transaction using an ATM :confused3

I'm thinking I'll chuck a most on the card if things are still good on Monday unless the rate is much better at the exchange...and then get some cash from the exchange.

Your point :confused3

It's so pwetty...

I know I paid a lot for my macbook. And I haven't ended up using it to the power I was planning to...but...I still love it.

Ugh! I'm too ignorant of all you guys are sayiing so I'll ust be tired and LAST!

I do tend to buy Tcheques when I go to the states to overcome the issue of the transaction fee. We then take out as much cash in the one transaction out of the travel card.
If shopping in a 'name' brand, we use the credit card. So it kinda spreads the load out a little. However, any option....the bank makes their fees. The Tcheques ends up being the better option (but the bank has already factored that into the exchange rate).

It is pretty....so is the pretty penny that they command. I just can't justify it right now...not when I've got one eye on a different body...

I checked out the Adorama pricing for the 7D. Last time I looked it was $2K. It's down to $1300, with the special discount now. OMG! I almost bought it last night but decided to wait to see what Canon was going to be announcing in the next couple of months. Just as well I did...given the kaput'er issues.

I would like to learn more about how to fix these darn computers. I would save alot of money. I know some stuff.

The exchange rate for europe or the usa is greater?

I dont blame you Alison.

We thought about a mac air, but the cost was just not really worth it at the time. Maybe someday.

One Aussie dollar is buying US 1.078, GBP 0.681, EURO 0.819 and HK 8.359 on the stock exchange.

The retail/banking rate will be about 3 - 4% less than those rates.

We normally expect a good AUD:USD rate to be about 75 cents; GBP at 50 cents and EURO at 60 cents. HK exchange was considered good above 7.
These rates are just phenomenal for any Aussies travelling.

True...you have your eye on other eye candy ;)

The bank always wins :lmao:
I was planning mainly CC's...which the travel card effectively is. Because this will mainly be 'known' name shopping.
So I'm just wondering how much to put on it vs just using cash.
There is so much volatility in the UK/Euro zone though I almost loaded up the card on friday. But I was slightly drunk after lunch so decided to wait til Monday. ;)

I'll just see where we are at. Things are looking good for Monday.
