Thanks, I'll be packing my skis in the car tomorrow.

Where are you off to?

Poor Vail still hasn't gotten any proper dumps of snow :sad2: Aspen has done a bit better...but still not great. After the records last season it's certainly the opposite. Wonder if it will be late and there'll be lots of Spring skiing?

Marmot Basin in Jasper has been doing well. And of course Whistler got the best of EVERYONE

Anyway. I hope you have a nice time skiing.

I hope you have a lovely trip usnuz and a nice time with Alison.

Hope all the packing away is going well PIO.

Just roasting some potatoes to go with my pork tonight and then for the hungry hoards arriving tomorrow...
Brownie points? :confused3

Christmas is all packed away at my house...inside and out.

Yes to the brownie points.

Just skiing, but I can't drive with my skis on.

The jetstream has been split and keeping the storms up in Canada or pretty far south. Californians are really hurting.

Who knows what will happen? It can be up down, dead or alive anywhere.

I've never known and I guessed right once. It was snowing good in December and I would be out with friends and we would talk about how good the year would be, and I said I think we'll make 600 inches. Come half way through the season and it was 300. It hit 600 on the last day of the season.

Right now we have more than anywhere in the US, but the snowfall total is about 2/3 of normal.

2011 was unseasonably wet for Melbourne. I suspect we are in for a hot summer...only time will tell.

My back is starting to spasm so I'll have to lie down rather than get to the photos I should have been editing and sorting first :lmao: [In terms of street cred at work]

But here it is...
The one...the only

Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright.

It's amazing the amount of work they have done to save this building. It may actually survive now in spite of FLW's arrogance in ignoring advice about the need for reinforcing in the suspended slabs. Interestingly it only survived until the restoration began because of the efforts of a student of his in telling the client they should have some more reinforcing.

Amazing visionary he was...
But arrogant such that his buildings are in disrepair and constant restoration...

[BTW I haven't filtered this photo through anything so I'm quite pleased. I usually run things through upping contrast and saturation in iphoto. Same for this one my mum took. I really like the soft tones of it.]

ETA - Just posted these two on facebook and BAM...two workmates like the photo (one former one current...)
:lmao: :rotfl:

Nice pictures Queenie. Interesting to see Falllingwater through your camera. I've seen pictures of it in books. Did you get to go inside?

Hope your back feels better tomorrow and that the family get home safe.

Just had a shower...helped a little. Now to bed...

I have a LOAD of pictures inside and out. This is one place they DON'T mind.
Some are a bit...why?? like construction joints. Then there's the squat and attempt to get a non fuzzy shot of the ceiling. You see the whole 'experience' is while seated in the built in furniture...but you can't sit on that. So I've attempted to recreate that angle.

Unfortunately many are blurry :sad2: but oh well...
Dark inside...nothing to lean on...and they are pedantic about any bags you carry being in front of you at all times so you don't run into walls...so no...you can't take a tripod :lmao:

Here is a selection. They need some work before work mates can see them....lol...
But here ya go...

And yes...that is a CUSTOM desk such that a door/window could still be opened to the outside.

Oh...and one for how 'codes' have changed.... :lmao:

THAT is the 'railing' height. And because of the status of the building as a "National Historic Landmark" they are not required to modify it before allowing visitors to go outside...

HaH! I am still here! Great pics. Where is this located? Did they charge to get in? I would love to see that?

Have fun skiing, skiing!

Glad all you decorations are put away!

Aren't you supposed to be on a train or somethin'?

Have fun! Skiboy!

Glad your decorations are all sorted out PIO!

Where's Dana been? More dates?

I'm on a short break from 1st St. Darcy brought her brother to help out today, but I'll be back over soon to slave away.

I'm still trying to get DS away from the TV and into his ski gear. It's always a challange.

Cool! Only a few more hours and you'll be here!

DS would rather watch TV than ski? :confused3

Still Saturday here. :rolleyes1

Have a great trip Usnuz. I wish I was there doing the mini Dis meet with you and Alison.

HaH! I am still here! Great pics. Where is this located? Did they charge to get in? I would love to see that?

Oh yes they charge to get in. Minimum cost is $20 per person to 'get in' and do the regular tour. The regular tour does not permit any photography while on the tour. So you can just do the external shots.

I did the in depth tour which is $65 per person given it's in the middle of *$^%& nowhere :rolleyes1 which allows you to stop and look around each room, and take photos and actually take it all in.

As for where they are...

This is their description...

Fallingwater is located in southwest Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands and 90 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The home sits in a scenic, wooded setting on PA Route 381 between the quaint villages of Mill Run and Ohiopyle.

The nearest 'town' with chain hotels is Frostberg where we stayed.
The closest main airport is Pittsburgh. It is East of there.

Happy skiing skiing....assuming you got DS away from the cartoons :lmao:
I'm still not sure what area you are in so what mountains you ski on??? :confused3

Happy travelling usnuz!!

Another day of fun at 1st St. You would think cleaning an empty house would be easy!
