So worried that my family will offend people at WDW--long!

I think the bubbles thing is a little ridiculous. Several rides and attractions at Disney have bubbles blowing on you. Perhaps Disney should warn people of offensive bubbles on certain rides.

What difference does it make if it is in a line or on a ride?

1. Using cell phones

Mine works on splash mountain. We used the phones to keep track of each other. Felt it was a better option than sending up smoke signals or standing in the street screaming each other's name.

2. Taking big strollers to parks and on buses

Okay, my youngest child is 15 years old. My step-daughter required a stroller because of a 'wrash'. I was way out of practice driving the thing. I am so sorry.

I got the thing stuck sideways in the isle of the pastery shop in Norway.

If I had my way, I would have bought a blanket from Mexico and dragged her around behind me. It would have been easier.

3. Feeding kids lots of junk food

Completely forgot to get dinner one night. Seriously, they are all old enough to say, 'Gee, I might faint from hunger.' The way I see it is that it's their own fault.

So, at least your feeding them something.

4. Blowing bubbles to keep kids occupied in line

Try having a kid that blows a whistle first thing in the morning.

Bubbles? I wish!

5. Taking kids who are still in diapers and still require a stroller

I bet there were times people wished I could strap some of my kids in a stroller.

Husband too.

6. Sharing a popsicle among family members (yes we did this!)

Commando Nikki, Beatlebum and I stood in line to order food while Em and Del parked the stroller in the stroller parking lot. I really didn’t think we had a chance of getting a table with all the people in there and was preparing the crew for the possibility of eating standing up. We figured if we only bought one drink, we could pass it around the circle while we took turns eating. Kind of a chew & hold, take a drink, pass & bite.

I could have worked.

Do you know how many times I said "I'm sorry" on my last trip? Nobody was ever mad at us.

Have fun and don't worry!

Maybe they're afraid of getting soap in their eyes. :p

I'm taking these one at a time.

1. Using cell phones (Of course we never used
them during rides or attractions but
we did use them occasionally
to keep in touch with each other when
separated)

So what? As long as you don't hold long conversations or let them ring during rides or shows (the vibrate function is great for that) - or (horrors) actually ANSWER them during rides or shows, keep in touch all you want. They're better than those walkie talkie things that people are always yelling "What? WHAT?" into.

2. Taking big strollers to parks and on buses (guilty--our double
stroller can be obtrusive even though we
try to manage it very courteously)

That's all you can do. You gotta have a stroller. Just don't roll it over people's feet if you can help it.

3. Feeding kids lots of junk food (I'm sure people at
WDW last summer thought
I was an awful mom when they saw me
serving my 2-year-old French Fries and
chocolate milk for lunch--on vacation we
don't eat nearly as nutritiously as we do
at home!)

Who the heck cares? You're on freakin' vacation.

4. Blowing bubbles to keep kids occupied in line (I never
even thought about people getting upset
about getting hit by bubbles!)

Who on earth is upset over getting hit by bubbles???? I guess there's all kinds out there but I can't imagine it. Maybe they'll start having bubble warnings out in front of the Little Mermaid show someday.

5. Taking kids who are still in diapers and still require a stroller

Take whatever kids you like. In case you haven't notice, the place is full of kids in diapers riding strollers.

6. Sharing a popsicle among family members (yes we did this!)

Your family's germs are nobody else's business. Just don't offer it to the folks in line behind you.

Have FUN!!

Nothing you mentioned is really that offensive. Atleast none of those things would bother me, it's up to you in terms of what you feed your kids. Don't worry about what others think and go and enjoy yourself. Now it would be different if you had mentioned cutting in line or being rude to castmembers, then I would have thought differently. Have a wonderful trip!

Go and have fun. Nobody should care what YOUR family is doing, outside of maybe the bubbles. It could be a freak thing like someone has an allergy or something. Other than the bubbles, nothing you posted was the least bit offensive and really only your business. Have a great trip and do not be so concerned about what other's opinions are, especially since you are doing nothing wrong. :D

Go and have a good time. We will also be one of those offensive families probably using an occasional cell phone call (not on attractions or rides) to track each other down if needed. I personally think these are a blessing when trying to meet up with people. You can also blow all the bubbles on me that you want! No big deal here.

We will also have the spray/misty fans and I've read that people get upset if you hit them with their mist. Can't imagine that either when it's 95 degrees outside, but you never know people's pet peeves.

I think you should go and have a blast! The bubbles don't bother me at all other than our dd#2 having a latex allergy and those new bubbles that are/were out are made of latex. I think they may have taken them off the market though. Our family would welcome the bubbles cause we love them providing they are latex free. LOL!!! Have fun!!!

HappyMommy2,

I tend to agree with your DH. Enjoy your time at WDW-it's made for people with young families to enjoy! That's part of the reason that Walt built it for! Just behave in a reasonable fashion, and make sure your boys behave.

Now go and have FUN!

I really don't think you have anything to worry about. You sound like a fun family to me :) Who cares what you are feeding your kids?

The only thing you might reconsider is the bubbles. It isn't good to get camera/video equipment (or eyeglasses) for that matter layered in soap residue. The bubbles can sometimes leave marks on certain fabrics as well.

I think the difference is the attraction bubbles aren't as highly concentrated as the stuff in the bottles. If someone is blowing bubbles directly in front of you it would be annoying dodging them after awhile.

I'm fine with it all except the bubbles! The new ones leave this horrible stuff on your clothes and hair and I would just not like to be on line an hour with a constant stream of bubbles coming around me.

I don't think you will offend anyone! At least I hope not, because I do some of those things myself!

And my take on the bubbles is this: if it keeps your children occupied while in lines (read between the lines: no whining/
crying!), then do it! However, be careful not to spill -- it can be a slippery mess.

Have fun!

I appreciate your writing about being concerned how your family acts at WDW. You are to be applauded. :cheer2:

As a Cast Member, I've heard many a complaint over the years. Very often it seems (from what guests have said to me) a big complaint is that many seem to leave their better judgement, manners, etc. at the entrance. I don't believe most people do, but I guess enough do because I often hear guests say that. Maybe they just don't stop to think or perhaps feel they don't know anyone and will never see them again so it doesn't matter what they do. Sad thought :(

I would agree with the others about the bubbles unless you're in an area away from everyone. You sound like a wonderful family to me. We'll be looking forward to seeing you on your next visit. ::yes::

Hey Maggie, you must have been at the same Track Meet I was a couple of weeks ago!!! A lady kept blowing one of those things. I thought it was SO rude but that's a debate I would hate to get started here!!!:teeth:

To the OP........have a great time and as long as you don't run over my toes in a couple of weeks with your stroller, I'm fine with your cell phones and junk food and even a few bubbles!!!

About those bubbles...

Would people still be bothered if the parents were the ones blowing the bubbles, and were sure to point them DOWN and/or away from people? What if they were the tiny size bubbles blown from a small wand?

And to the OP, none of what you posted would bother me, and most of what you've posted I've done! Have a WONDERFUL trip!

Go and have fun, and just be aware and polite to others and i'm sure the same will be done for you.
I saw alot of people with dbl strollers myself included and nobody ever seemed upset that I had to juggle this thing on a bus I actually had people without kids help me with it as far as diapers if you go to WDW and dont expect to see kids in diapers boy are you in the wrong part of the world, and did my kids eat veggies and fruit for the entire trip...nope, lets have an ice cream for lunch.
Your there to have fun and its the greatest place to have fun and be kid or act like a kid.
A quick story about letting your kids be kids, there was a mom on our bus to MK and they had just arrived and were going over to see the parade and fireworks and her little girl saw the castle and started saying loud but not yelling "mommy I see it...I see the castle over and over and her mom was getting embarrassed and was trying to quiet her but everyone around her told her let the little girl be excited she wasnt bothering anyone it was actually a very sweet moment.

You will have a great time

When are you going again? We should get together, we'll be the family doing most of the things you described. My 15-month old will be in his stroller, sporting his Pampers. My 3-yo *might* be in a stroller, if his little legs can't carry him anymore. 3-yo will have his share of chocolate milk, as will DH and myself. Fries alone won't sustain my 15-month old, the child eats like he's not going to eat again for days, but it might just be me that's living on fries the whole week!

We probably won't have any bubbles, only because my 3-yo never fails to spill them, usually on himself, but if you want, you can blow some in our direction, 'cause we like to play in them!

I hope you enjoy your trip, and don't worry about what anyone else thinks!

Steph

I don't see any problem with what you listed. The only one which would concern me is the bubbles, because they could unintentionally wind up in someones eyes, or mouth or there could be people who are allergic to that type of soap.

Aside from that, I don't think you will offend anyone.

I agree the bubbles would be the only thing on that list that I could see a problem with. Have fun in WDW.

I wouldn't worry about it at all! You didn't list anything that is offensive to me! It is Disney and all sorts of families are there, it is expected that there will be strollers! As far as the "eating" I get so irritated when other people give looks at what others are feeding their children! The first thing I thought when you listed french fries and chocolate milk was that your child might have an allergy or not like anything else that was served! Believe me, I can speak with experience with a picky child!

If you had listed things like:
cutting in lines
your children stepping on people's feet
no bathing and your family smelling

These would be offensive to me! :D

Have fun on your trip!!
