So...Why is Nine Dragons a Disboard Outcast?

We have eaten there a few times and liked both meals. We had a sampler platter for dinner and the dim sum luch. The dim sum was pretty good so we will most likely put it on our list of luches to repeat this trip.

We ate there last spring. It was good chinese food, but nothing different from what I can get at home. I want to try different stuff on vacation, so probably will not return there for dinner.

I am a big fan of trying things for yourself. If everybody avoided every restaurant that has been bashed on the Dis, then nobody would ever eat while at WDW! To each his own. If you want to try Nine Dragons you should. If you hate it, at least you know...if you love it, YAY Chinese food! It's all up to you!

Many trips there over the years, and have always had good meals and great service.

It is good food and an enjoyable resturant, the tables are a little close together in some areas and it is one of the pricer options, but overall it is good.

Last year we shared with the kids and used DDE. They were very accomodating and helpful, and did not push us to order extra things. I think we ordered 2 entrees to eat between the 4 of us (DH, DD12, DD3, and me), and one extra cup of soup. We enjoyed it a lot, and I eat chinese food a lot at home (but mostly take out).

Has anyone had the Peking Duck? This is a big draw for me... but I don't have 9 dragons on my ressies, any comments? ;)

I think you mean the Bejing duck dinner, I am fairly sure they do not do peking duck.

Eww... I ate there in June.

I can get much better and much cheaper Chinese near my house. (And how can you ruin Fried Rice, isn't that a basic) My food had so much SALT that you couldn't taste the food....

Now Lotus Blossom is fine. (And you would think it's the same folks running both!)

And based on the Chinese food I had years ago in Singapore, it's not like they are trying to be authentic and that's why it's not what you expect. The authentic stuff was much better then this.

shhhhhhhhhhhh!! 9 Dragons is the best kept world showcase secret! i think all the fans purposely give it a bad rep so they know they can always get a table, even w/out ADRs!

we ran in to 9D to get out of torrential rain a few years ago (our plan was to walk in to biergarten, before ADRs were mandatory) and decided to give it a whirl since we were there and the rain was not letting up... we loved it! it was ds' first time eating chinese food and it made a fan of him! we've not gone back simply 'cause there are so many other WS restaurants we want to try... but it's on dh's list every time i say "so where should we eat this trip?" (and btw, we still have never gotten to biergarten, but it's on our ADRs for sept!)

I've never been, but we have ADR's for August. I really want to try the "Salad in a Vase". Certain spots go in and out of fashion on the DIS, but if I've never tried it for myself, I always give a place that interests me a shot.

And now, I have "God Help the Outcasts" in my head. :lmao:

It is the only restaurant at WDW where I get sticker shock. And I am an original New Yorker with almost 35 years living in the Washington DC area.

I totally agree. DH and I do not mind paying for good food. This place was your standard "cheap" chinese food for 3xs the price you would normally pay for it. I know everything is more expensive in WDW...but this place was crazy!

We love Nine Dragons and try to go there every trip. We do try new restaurants each trip but Nine Dragons is our old stand by. The kids even request that we go there every time.

We have never had a bad meal or bad service during any of our visits, I guess that is what keeps us coming back. We also don't find the prices to be outrageous.

Last week we did see someone getting what looked like duck to me. They brought it out to the table and cut it up for them. We stick with our usual honey sesame chicken and canton beef each trip. My brother who dines with us has tried some more adventurous dishes there and loved them all.

Ate there a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. We were on the dining plan so no sticker shock :cool1:

Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. Service was very attentive. No complaints here!

I thought it was bad Chinese food for too much money with really average to poor service when I went 1 1/2 years ago. -Wendy

Okay, I admit it, I am considering Nine Dragons. Doesn't anyone eat here? Is is part of the Disboard oath to avoid it at all costs? Can anyone report anything positive, or can someone at least explain what is so bad? :confused3

I think you should try it. It's ok. I think most people stay away because the food is little different from what they get at home, and for cheaper. You could probably make the same argument for San Angel, but they have an interesting atmosphere, while Nine Dragons is still your average Chinese restaurant in terms of decor as well.

We've had lunch there several times and always enjoy it. :) As a matter of fact it's on a very short list of places that I can guarantee both of my sons will eat really good while there! They each eat a bowl of hot and sour soup (they LOVE this soup...it is quite good there) and they share a kids meal of sweet and sour chicken. They eat every bit of both...even the tofu in the soup. :thumbsup2 The last time we were there DH looked at the bill (which is against the family rules! We agree on a budget but then I plan everything to fit within it and he is not allowed to know the price of any individual component or he has a fit over if it was "worth it." That way at the end of the week he can say "that vacation was definitely worth $XXXX rather than evaluating each thing individually. ;) )...anyway...I had one of the kids in the restroom when the check came and he looked at it. He left saying "I can't believe we just spent $50 on lunch" (including tax and tip). I asked if he enjoyed it and he said yes. I said so did I and so did the kids. They ate better here than anywhere else we've gone so if we all enjoyed it and the kids ate really well AND we know we are having counter service for dinner tonight so the overall daily food budget is fine...what's the problem? It all fits into the overall trip budget and this is why you are not to look at the bill, remember?" ;)

We always ask for a table near the windows and have never had a problem with that. The last trip was in May so it was during the flower and garden festival. There was a flower panda right outside our window so people kept stopping to pose with it for pics. DS (4) kept asking why all those people kept stopping by HIM (DS) for pictures. We told him it was b/c he was so darn cute...so there are probably a few people who have pics of themselves, a floral panda, the side of Nine Dragons and in the window, a blonde 4 year old boy doing this... :teeth:
