When I was younger, my parents and sisters and I got a cabin at FW which to this day I still think are awesome. From a die-hard camper's point-of-view the resort seems perfect. SO has anybody ever pitched a tent and camped out or even taken an RV or camper and stayed? How was it?

Camping at Fort Wilderness is wonderful!!! :goodvibes

We have a Fort Wilderness Camping board here on the DIS! Follow this link --- and you'll be able to talk to LOTS of Fort Wilderness campers! Camping Board

My family and extended family love Fort Wilderness. We stay there when ever we can have a long trip (7-11days) to Disney. If we are only in town for a short while(2/3 days) we will stay in one of the resort hotels. Fort Wilderness gives you a chance to relax a bit. They DO NOT have a themed pool. But the campfire and sing a long and movies are lots of fun. They don't have a petting zoo like they used to. So some things might have changed since you were there last. But give it a look, the sites are still wooded and give you a secluded feeling. You still have the playground at the beach and can watch MK fireworks from the beach. FW is rated as one of the best campgrounds. As you can see we love it there, so many happy memories. :bounce:

We stayed there for a week last fall and it was wonderful. We were in the 300 loop and the site was very nice. Enough room for the RV (slide out and awning) and good sized pad. The campground is beautiful and dds loved the peacocks roaming around. My one suggestion would be to make sure you reserve a golf cart before you go. :)

We've stayed there several times. DH and I tent camped there in 1992 on our honeymoon. It was very warm in the tent, but the amenities at FW are wonderful. We have also camped in campers 3 times since, with younger children. The camper was much nicer, beds and a/c. The bath houses are very clean and the laundry facilities are average. The pools are not fancy, but the campground has so much to offer that we can live without a themed pool. We have also stayed in a cabin once. That was also very nice. Lots of room and amenities such as full kitchen and mousekeeping. We love the campground and always try to go for 2 weeks.

We have camped at FW and we LOVE IT!!! Can't say enough good things about it. We leave on Fri. to go to FW again!!! :cheer2: Last year we stayed in Loop 300 so we were close to everything so we didn't need a golf cart. We're hoping to get the same loop again this year.

My extended family of six groups, all campsite happy people, went to Fort Wilderness in 1977. I cannot tell you how impressed everyone was with the resort. The cleanliness, the rest rooms, everything.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago. Same dad and he's still blown away with the campground.

We just got back from a 7 day stay at the campground. It was probably the best part of the trip. The campground is set among towering trees dripping with Spanish Moss. Egrets, pelicins and ducks fly over the lake all day and evening. A boat will take you to Magic Kingdom, you can watch fireworks from the beach along with a boat parade etc. Buses transport you around the campground but we rented a golf cart for 4 days, the kids loved it. Stayed in a pet loop, (300s) no bugs (I think they spray). The sites were a little tight to get into with a 35 ft. 5th wheel, but not impossible. I think it was set up before RVs became so large. Nevertheless, a wonderful experience.

You should go over to the Camping at WDW forum. They are great resources to talk to .
