Hi everyone! :hippie:

I'm new to this part of the boards....i'm normally a lurker around the DLP sections.

But, as our boys are getting that bit older and we're ready to think about long distance flights, so we have set a date (although itsa loooong way off) to take them to WDW! :cool1:

This will be my first visit by DH visited when he was around 14, so 16 years ago, we're assuming lots has changed!

I'm really hoping all you lovely people can help me with the planning, do's and don'ts etc and teach me all i need to know!! :worship:

Best advice I can give is pick the right time to go. We always go september as its pretty quiet compared to other months and if you stay onsite in a Disney hotel toucan get free dining. January is also quiet.

I know it's hard with kids but if you go at a busy time it could mean more stress and you enjoy your time there less which obviously you don't want!!!

Hi to The Tizzards

I'm sure there will be lots of advice to follow, but my number one tip would be that you cannot do too much research or planning.

Honestly, every hour you put in planning will be well worth it when you arrive.

There is so much to do in wdw and you can not hope to fit it all in; but you will see and experience much more if its planned and researched.

Also - don't be afraid to ask questions here. No mater how big or small, there is always some one with the answer.

Happy planning.

Chris

Welcome :)

If you are restricted to school hols then end of August or October half term are the two most popular times with people on the board to go - crowd and weather wise.

I'd recommend a book called Brit's guide to orlando by simon veness - it is a useful intro from a britsh point of view. Amazon usually have it cheaply.

Then decide what you want to see - are you just after disney or do you want to do universal (harry potter), seaworld etc.

Then decide if you want to stay onsite in a disney resort or offsite in a villa or hotel.

You can book a package holiday with flights/accomodation 18 months or so in advance.

Most on here DIY - basically book flights as soon as the scheduled flights are released 11 months out and book accomodation separately. It is often cheaper to do this than book a package deal.

Disney has been doing some great deals to get people to stay in their resorts - discounts plus free dining plan. We are waiting for the announcement of the deal for 2013. Has got alot of us onsite.

Please ask away.
