So when you buy resale, your membership is "back-dated"?

I'm not sure if I phrased that correctly ... We just rec'd our membership cards on our resale contract (which is our only contract -- we owned before, sold, and now rebought).

The member number is different than our original number (even though the MS rep insisted to me it wasn't -- I still have my old card, so I know it's different), and the "member since" date is 3/01. Our original date was 2/01.

So since this is a March use year, I'm assuming that the membership we now own is "back-dated" to when the original owners bought?

It obviously doesn't make any real difference; I just was curious. Anyone know for sure?

My OKW membership cards say Member Since 1995. I bought it in 2002.

My VWL cards have a whole different number.

Those were both resales? I knew you could have different use years, it never occurred to me that you could have different member numbers! Or do you mean you have two different "member since" dates?

When you buy resale you get the original owners member ID and member since date. If you own multiple resale contracts with the same use year, Admin Services may or may not link your contracts to the same member ID.

I'll second disneynutz' comments. We bought our second contract resale and have a second set of blue cards with different numbers and "member since" dates. Also a different UY....so you can see that they couldn't roll them all under one member number anyway. The resale cards memberships pre-date our initial DVC investment by a few years and often I wish we really had been members since the earlier date! :)

We purchase 2 resale contracts, different UY and resorts, on both the first set of blue card we received had older member since dates. But When our first uy came around we got new cards that have our new purchase date on them.

As stated above, it is correct to have the original contract date and member number on your resale. I have three member numbers, three different dates and all are correct. You are purchasing the real estate interest from the individual who contracted with Disney, therefore you receive their dates and numbers. I line them all up when I am making complicated ressies such as my Mediterranean Cruise last summer. No problems and I have been doing this for years. Now let me knock on wood, LOL!

I wonder why ours was corrected to our purchased date and some still carry the orginial purchase date. I know I did not request new cards the 2 different set were just sent to me.

How can we have the original owner's member number if they're still members (we just bought one of their add-on contracts)? That would mean there were two owners with the same member number!

Now I'm really confused! :confused3

We have 2 DVC contracts. One purchased from Disney. One purchased as a resale.

They have different member ID #'s. The resale is dated back to the original purchaser's date of 1992. We purchased the contract in 2002.

I assume it has something to do with the legalities of that contract being that many points for that many years and so forth.

Hm. I would've thought that the contract number would be what would take care of legalities, and member number was strictly for our identification.

Still doesn't make sense that we would get the *seller's* member number if they're still using it.

This is confusing to me, too. I've sold two contracts to two different people and still have one of my add-ons. There cannot be three people all using the same member number, can there?
