So when did you start?

My DW and I just recently purchased our first travel trailer. I am 41 and she is 33. We had talked about it for awhile, as we love to travel. With four kids (plus wanting one more) it costs a heck of a lot for us to fly anywhere, not to mention we were having to book suites or condos for all of us to comfortably fit in.

We have been on a couple trips and love it. The DW has planned a trip through the Southeast and WDW in January. Should be interesting having all of us in my truck cab for the long drive from Nebraska.

So my question is, when did you start / what got you into the camping lifestyle?

Big Red,

I am a DH now 47 and grew up in Boy Scouts camping all the time. I love the outdoors. My beautiful DW, on the other hand, grew up thinking roughing it meant staying at a Holiday Inn rather than the Ritz-Carlton.

As my signature shows, I took her on her first camping trips to the Fort the year we were married in 87 and 88. It was tent camping and we later added trips to the state park down on the Bama Gulf Coast (beach trip) and only went when weather was pleasant to build on positive experiences.

Kids came and we bought a bigger tent and went camping only on perfect spring and fall weekends to build those positive experiences. But as we aged we wanted to "get off the ground" (as in sleeping wise). So we bought a pop-up and used the heck out of it including trips to the Fort nearly annually for the last ten years.

We still have and use the pup (no TT for us yet) but the kids are teenagers now (freshman in college, high school junior, middle schooler) with busy schedules, activities, weekends so camping with all it nearly impossible now. So we will mobilize whoever can make it whenever we can.

For us the camping lifestyle is a relaxing, affordable way to have our cabin in the woods, our condo at the beach, and/or our timeshare at Disney. We enjoy relaxing with nature and taking life a little slower while appreciating it more.

Thanks for asking!

We bought our first TT in 2000. We went on a trip to N O, stayed at a Marriott in Covington La, it was filthy, disgusting, vile. We asked family if we buy a camper is anyone coming with? Everyone said no. So when we got back home we started looking for popups. I wanted a potty and shower, soon realized that wasn't gonna work for us in a popup. So we went for a 25 ft TT. We are on our 3rd TT now. It's OUR hotel on wheels.

And they all lied. Our first trip was alone and 2 trips in 11 years. :lmao: I do love the family atmosphere in camping. :thumbsup2

40 years ago back in 1971 with a tent just after we were married. In 74 moved up to a hard sided Apache Pop Up that we traveled coast to coast in and then in 1981 moved up to a TT. Have owned and camped consistently since 1971.

I camped until my daughter turned 16 and had to stay home because of a job. Sold the camper when we came home from that trip. Don't ask. Never looked back.

When we did camp it was a great way to afford the things we did. Great for long weekends too. Never wanted to go seasonal at one spot but did spend a week at a local camp grounds and just enjoyed camping.

We are currently thinking about selling the home when we retire and hitting the road.

Big Red:

DW Shirley and I (or is it me) are Rookies. We are in our 4th year. You stay a Rookie until you stop breaking things on your rig.

On a spur of the moment in July, we took off from PA and somehow wound up in Idaho. From Idaho we made a wrong turn and, BYGOLLY & BEEJEEEZUS we were in Fort Wilderness.

Coming up RT 75 out of Florida my truck was pulling to the left. I let it go on auto-pilot and we wound up in TN.

Hold on ! ! We were here in TN 3 weeks ago. This is a guess, but in 2 1/2 months, we will have gone though 25/26 States and we are still married.

The biggest brawls he had were ; what day is it ?? what time is it ??? what is the date ???

Your guys are youngins'. Try doing a Zip Line in Branson MO, when you are 72 & 73 respectfully. DW is much older than me.
