So, when did you get your FINAL cabin assignment?

It seems that many of us didn't learn our ultimate stateroom assignments until about 3 weeks before the cruise, when we got our documents. A few lucky ones seem to find out much sooner, either by having their booking directly with DCL and seeing it online or getting a phone call from their TA or DCL.

IF you BOOKED GTY OR were UPGRADED from a selected room, when did learn of your final stateroom assignment?

Hey, we're on the same cruise. Have you posted on our Cruise Meets thread yet?

We our cruising next May 2005 and found out our room assignment when we booked through allseas. In Fact, the travel agent told us our room assignment and we requested that it be changed to a specific room assignment and he was able to accommodate.

We are traveling with another family and we wanted to be near each other. If you are by yourself, however, you might stand a better chance of being upgraded if you don't specify a specific room. Just stay guaranteed and be surprised!

We got our cabin assignment the day we booked too. Not a GTY or upgrade. Do you have to accept an upgrade if you like where you are? We booked a cat. 9 connecting with in-laws and have my DM and BIL right by us too. I wouldn't want an upgrade, unless they gave me a cat. 6. Then I wouldn't have a problem leaving my family. ;)

October 16, 2004 cruisers, come join our Cruise Meets thread!

I was asking about your ULTIMATE room assignment, that would be provided nearer the time of sailing. Specifically when those with GTY status or who were upgraded from whatever cabin they initially selected.

Thanks!

Got ours when I booked -- 22 months in advance. But I'm traveling with my son, daughter and 3 grandkids and we needed connecting rooms.

We had our room assigned when we booked with DCL in May 2004 for a January 2005 cruise. However, we are travelling with friends and wanted rooms close together.

We got ours when we booked thorugh our Travel Agent as well. I think they have booked space ahead of time so they know the room blocks they are using up.

Requested and got our cabin number when booking through Costco about a year out. Same for everyone in our group! :earsgirl:

On our first cruise, we purchased a GTY cabin, because that was all that was left at the time we finally decided to go. We got our room assignments on our cruise docs, and ended up next door to a couple we met on the boards, and had linked our dinner reservations to prior to sailing. (They were FABULOUS neighbors!)

We booked our second cruise onboard, and because the late 2005 dates were not out yet at the time of booking, we had to book for an Easter break date. We transferred our booking to DU when the 12/2005 dates were available, and after doing all my research in my Passporter, requested specific cabins at the time of transfer. DU was great about giving requested advice, and was able to book our choice of cabins.

our cabin was assigned at booking through dvc, which is really dcl, friends on the same cruise got the assignments at time of booking through ta.

::yes::
We booked through AAA in January of this year. Got a choice of staterooms while we were booking it right there.:bounce:

First four cruises found out right away when we booked. Last cruise was GYT and found when we received our docs.

Booked through a local travel agent, got a cabin assignment the minute we booked. However, DCL called the TA 8 days before we sailed to tell us we had been upgraded from category 10 to category 6, and to make sure to put the new cabin number on our luggage.

Most people get their "final" cabin assignment when they originally book...I don't think this is what the questioner was asking.

If you book gty status, you are giving up the ability to select a cabin at the time of booking, and are allowing DCL to assign a cabin number later. This does increase you chance of a free upgrade. You usually find out your "final" assignement when you get your documents, but it can still be changed later. What they won't do is to move you down if your docs show an upgrade.

IF you booked GTY status, you are agreeing to take whatever cabin they assign, so you cannot turn down an upgrade. If you booked normal status with a room assigned at the time of booking, and the upgrade fairy sprinkled pixie dust on you, you will get a call from DCL or your TA saying that they are offering an upgrade--you have 24 hours to accept or decline the changed cabin number.

We've also booked GTY and had a new assignment when we arrived at the port...good news is so nice!

I booked for Aug 13 2005 West Coast (LA-Mex) cruise while onboard the Aug 14 2004 Magic cruise (west caribb). I was assigned a cabin already....one year in advance!! Not to mention the 10% discount and $200 shipboard credit. Actually, I got to select the cabin of my choice. Pretty cool stuff.

Whenever I booked GTY I found out my cabin assignment when I got to the port (3 times).
