So, What's Great about Crocs for Kids at Disney?

Hi, I keep hearing great things about Crocs for kids at Disney, but I'm curious about what is great about them? And how are they supposed to fit? My DD is about 3 1/2-are they good for her too? Any specific types? And how are they supposed to fit? We tried a pair of the basic ones on and they seemed pretty loose all over, even in the back by the strap.

Anyone try the Stride Rite shoes that look like Croc's or the Stride Rite Baja Fisherman EVA's?

My kids love their crocs. DD wore hers at WDW when she was 2, she wore them all last summer. DS won't wear any other kind of shoe now. Yes, they are supposed to fit loose. There are different styles that fit differently, so if the one you tried seemed too loose, then try Mary Janes or the croclings, which have a fabric strap.

They're light and you don't have to worry about them getting wet and if they get dirty you can just rinse them off.

Last year DS wore his disney crocs constantly. He was 4, and now this year at 5, he asked for another pair. Well, to his slight dismay, the easter bunny dropped off a pair of batman crocs instead of the requested duplicate ones from last summer . (I really didn't think it would be such an issue and thought he'd like the change. WRONG.) Anyhow, like pp said, they are supposed to fit loose, but not fall off when walking. Right now DS is in-between sizes and his new ones are very loose, but the only alternative would be to buy same size as last year and those are too small. So you must take that into consideration when trying them on your child. My sister bought her 2yr old the croclings and loves them for her son.

My DD's love their crocs. My youngest would rather go barefoot when ever possible but when I say no you have to wear shoes she always goes for the Crocs. My DD's even wore them with socks all winter long. My oldest DD cried every morning for weeks when school first started because they weren't allowed to wear crocs to school - some crazy rule about kids falling on the steps I think they are great for everything except for parks with Mulch. My kids hate wearing them to the park and getting mulch inside their shoe and that is the only time I can convince them to wear sneakers. Yes they do fit loose, especially at that age because each pair has a 2 size range but that has never bothered my DD's. DD#1 seems to get blisters with every other kind of shoe but never her crocs.

I wore a pair lots last spring/summer and I loved that they were so comfortable, quick to put on, they clean up great, and you can get them wet.

I like my kids to wear crocs at Disney bc they never get blisters with them and they are very comfortable. I also like that they are able to play in the fountains and such with their shoes on and they don't have to deal with wet sneakers all day. If the wetness of the crocs bothers them, I can always go to the bathroom and dry them out.

The best part about the crocs, I think, is they can get them wet and then they can be dried instantly. My dd hates getting her clothes and shoes wet, but she loves to get her crocs wet! They are also comfortable. I wore mine last year the whole time at Disney!

I too love my crocs... but have been told by a chiropractor they are not supportive enough - shoes need a heel cup to do that properly. We wear them around outside the house and cabin, but not for any distance of walking... of course.. each person can decide on their own...

Crocs haven't really worked for us. My daughter is the only one who cares to wear them (Mary Janes), and my younger son always seems to trip over his own feet when he wears his. For us, they are great for the pool and quick errands, but if we are going to be doing any kind of walking, we wear our tennis shoes.

I always wondered what the obsession was too. My kids have them but have never worn them to Disney. I wondered what the difference was between wearing these or flip flops to get wet. I would think the crocs would be hot as they cover the entire foot. Maybe we'll try em out and see for ourselves how it works out.

My kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their crocs! They pretty much only wear crocs (except to church and then only b/c I remind them that they can't wear crocs to church). My ds who is 2 just now started wearing tennis shoes every once in a while - give him a choice and he'll put his crocs on! I like them b/c they dry fast, clean easily, they can put them on by themselves..... that said, we haven't worn them WHILE at WDW and I'm a little concerned that their feet will get too hot.... but they did wear them every day last summer here in Texas so maybe it will be okay????

My daughter lives in her crocs during the summer (and cowgirl boots in the winter ). And I wear mine whenever I can too. They are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

But my grandmother cannot wear them. They do not support her arch enough (or some such thing).

For Disney we usually wear crocs, but will occassionally wear tennies for half a day here or there, because no matter what I wear my feet seem to appreciate a change.

DS loves his Mickey Crocs. He is 33 months old and loves that he can put them on and take them off quickly all by himself. I just saw they now have Thomas the Train crocs so we may be getting those soon.

My kids adore their Crocs --but only the REAL thing. The knock offs were a dud- my kids complained bitterly about the blisters, rubs and chafes from the knock-offs (Skechers). Only authentic Crocs are cushy enough.

They're supposed to be loose, slip on shoes. If your toes rub the toebox, they're too tight. My kids have worn them since toddlerhood.

We love our Crocs, but have realized that they really aren't safe to be wearing out and about. We won't be wearing our Crocs at the parks any longer as they aren't sturdy enough for young feet - all of us have slipped at some point in our Crocs and we weren't running at all, just normal walking. We prefer Stride Rite, Keds, Osh Kosh, Nike/Adidas or Osh Kosh shoes and that is what we are sticking with!

Don't get us wrong, we love our Crocs - love the colours and how comfortable they are, but they really are slippery and unsafe even when walking slowly as that is just their nature, so we aren't taking any chances any longer so we no longer wear our Crocs to shopping mall, playing on concrete or at WDW parks.

My DS8 and I wore our Crocs last year every day of our 10 day trip to Disney. Our feet were pain-free at the end of the day. In the past, I've worn my tennis shoes or teva sandals, and nothing beats my crocs. My legs and feet are not tired at the end of a long day of walking. I wear croc scutes slides as well as the clog type - the slides of course are cooler. My DS8 says "these are the most comfortable shoes in the world!"

Our last trip we have family members age 2-62 wearing crocs. I have plantar fascitis and I worried about foot pain at Disney. With the crocs, no pain.

As far as being slippery, these shoes were originally popular with nurses and cooks who needed washable, comfy, non-skid shoes. They are supposed to prevent slipping.

I saw this article a few months back and while we don't live in an area where we meet escalators AT ALL, you should be aware that there have been several serious injuries with children on escalators in crocs. The soft sole has been known to get caught between treads of the escalator. Here is a link to the article on Snopes.com:

Before the article came out, it made perfect sense to us that any soft-soled shoe could catch on an escalator or other moving walkway (airports, themeparks, etc.), but, as I mentioned before, we just don't find Crocs that safe as they are slippery and kids frequently fall and trip. We've had some serious injuries with neighborhood kids all while playing in Crocs: slipping and needing stitches for serious chin gash, getting shoes caught or shoes slipping off and stepping on things on ground. Although Crocs are very comfortable for our family, we only wear them to the pool/beach or for a quick jaunt in the backyard to look at the garden, as we don't feel they are safe for adults and kids alike. I have several brand new Crocs (well taken care of) and they catch with me as an adult, as that is the nature of soft-soled shoes. I also notice the same with my children, so we only wear safe shoes (running shoes or athletic sandals) while out and about, especially when playing at park or riding bike.

There are some very interesting articles on the Internet from various doctors and health professionals (orthopedic & chiropractors) who say that although Crocs are comfortable, they are slippery and not safe for youngsters who are playing on playground equipment, running on asphalt or riding bikes. Kids shoes must fit well, and Crocs just don't do the job in this regard, and this is why many schools and daycares have banned Crocs. As a teacher I can tell you that serious injuries can and do happen on the school playground, so it's imperative that kids have the proper footwear at all times in order to keep them as safe as possible - Crocs, slippery dress shoes, bedroom slippers or flip flops just don't allow for safe playground situations in many cases and so parents need to keep this in mind. Disney is full of slippery concrete and play areas, so for us, it's only well made and safe shoes at all times!
