So What's Coming to the New Pleasure Island?

A second source not only confirms it will re-open, but they give more detail.
Look for a dinner show type club. The audience will move from room to room as a unit so all shows are viewed. The BET may be converted to extend the space of the Club

Hmmm...I seem to remember putting forth a similar idea on one of these threads some time back...and we know Disney reads the boards...I wonder if they'll give me credit. :)

I do remember that being floated in the past!!

Hey, you never know...

I agree. As excited as I am at some developments, I am not saying PI is reopening, but I'm holding out hope and you can be sure I'll be on the island at lest 2x a week looking for any clues I can find.

This morning my Blog website is reporting why the DJ's are being hired and the latest rumors about Mannequins and 8TRAX reopening.

This is not presented as fact but just rumors.

I did happen to recently see the Mannequins disco ball installed firmly into place -- at AIE. ;)

Me too! I posted that before the clubs even closed...

But mine was a rumor from inside... not my idea. Dag-nabit.

I have confirmation for one of King Bob's rumors--the PI Live DJ booth moves to the space over Laffers April 4. There will be two "DJs"--one upstairs playing music, the other "working the street," interacting with guests. There will also be street performers, like stilt-walkers. Apparently the event or area will be renamed "Festival of the West End."

Could be fun, if it captures the vibe CityWalk used to have. Or it could just be an overly elaborate way of saying "Pay no attention to those empty buildings surrounding us." By the way, all these positions are being outsourced. I suppose that adds credibility to the new rumor of a 3rd party vendor running Mannequins/8-Traxx, but may be a bad sign for AC/CW.

It seems to me this idea of the 3rd party outsourcing makes the most sense, is fiscally productive, and for the most part, would shut up most of the critics. Open 8-trax, mannequins, and AC and most will be happy. CW has a following, but not nearly that of AC. Additionally, it clearly seems the clubs need to be sustainable on their own and not as part of a larger entity. AC has a much better chance of making money on its own than CW does IMO.

Motion and Soundstage can rot for all I care. There is nothing nothing unique about those clubs. Half the time atlantic dance turns into Motion anyway, so go there if that's what you want. The only thing I'll say is that even soundstage's light show far surpasses anything else in Orlando.

Lets just hope this is really going to happen. Lets also hope if a third party is gonna open up those two clubs, that they remain largely unchanged in music and theme

I haven't probed for any info on the other clubs, but I do have reason to believe the AC will re-open, in some form, as a Disney owned & run club. :smokin:

yes I'm sorry I did not mention that in my post. It just won't happen for a bit yet, which is ok. Outsource mannequins and 8-trax, then work on getting AC reopened into a dinner experience, and we'll be in good shape. Most people will be happy to still have the clubs and the AC fans will cause Disney to make tons of $$$ off the concept

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, and believe me, it wouldn't be the first time, but there seems to be a conflict of information being posted here. The notice from disneyauditions.com posted above states:

"Performers employed by the Walt Disney World Resort are covered under the terms and conditions of a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Actors’ Equity Association."

This, and the fact that Disney is auditioning the DJs itself, strongly implies that the DJs will be Disney employees. Not outsourced.

Good point. But keep in mind that the statement is factual; performers employed by WDW are union positions. But that still does not mean that the positions being auditioned are Disney employees. About a month or so ago there were auditions at Atlantic Dance and those hired did not get employed by WDW but instead by private DJ companies. So we don't really know how these new PI Live DJ's will be employed. But I agree that it does imply Disney employment.

Ahh, don't be bashful. Tell us how you really feel!

Absolutley right. Are conflicts of information anything new in these AC threads? ;)

Don't know much about the auditions, just repeating what I've heard from credible sources. It would be odd, tho, that the existing DJs couldn't just be moved if this was only a change in location; instead they have to re-audition.

I think that because they are looking for DJ/entertainer, that is part of the reason for having to re-audition even if they were going to be Disney CMs. Being a DJ and being an entertainer are two very different things.

this just in...construction crews were at the island last night with a cement cutter and cut several lines in the concrete at the beginning of the bridge leading into PI right by Mannequins. Now they are back with a back hoe and things are not looking good for the archway with Pleasure Island on it.

If that thing disappears...just remember you heard it here first!

Today, they threw a wooden ramp over the section of concrete, it looked like they put some blacktop on top of the hole. It looked like they may have just needed to put down a pipe or something.

In other news, the pin/merchandise cart has disappered, so it looks like they are getting ready for the West End dueling DJs

If the pin cart is gone, maybe the return of Comedy Warehouse is upcoming. Come on Kevin make it happen!
