Actually, Whataburger has wonderful chicken strips and salads. I don't know about In and Out.
I don't really know much about the hotels in the area but it really depends on what part of Plano you intend to look in. Plano is pretty big so looks along the Dallas North Tollway if you're interested in west Plano or up in McKinney if you plan to look in that direction. Don't rule out Allen which is right by McKinney and Plano along I-75. This little town has good schools, a bit better home pricing and tends to be quieter.
One word of caution, get a good map and try to avoid 121. It's under major construction and can be a mess. If you wander into Frisco where we live at any time, try to be patient. We're having some major growing pains and traffic can be a nightmare. Once it's all done, I expect a nice situation though.
Good things about Texas? Restaurants, shopping, good people, reasonably close to the Ozarks (I adore them.

), Fort Worth arts, mild winters, low taxes. We have two good airporst and Southwest is fighting the Wright amendment. Hopefully they'll succeed so that we take SW to Florida!
Be prepare for the heat! When you come, it'll be scorching and you'll probably wonder why the heck you moved here. Most people get used to the brutal summers and take it in stride after a while. Besides, it gives us all something to complain (and brag) about.
