The smell? Well I wont post the link, due to the fact that this is a family friendly site, but I know I saw a site not too long ago of pictures from people who liked to get naked in the monorails when they were alone with their spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend and would sit on the seat taking pictures  . that may be the smell :rotfl:

Needless to say, it's not exactly a "flattering" site.

OMG.... the mental image if frightening enough!!!! :scared1:

That is really gross!! :confused3

Trust me, I didnt "want" to walk upon that site. I was on another Disney site's forum and people were mentioning this site, which got alot of recognition regarding the same thing happening on Splash Mountain, where people would "derobe" for the drop and let the camera take the picture on the drop. I guess at that point , employees would take the pictures (they remove any explicit things like that and dont post them on the screens) and I guess put them on these sites or give them to the owners of this site.

Someone on one of the other forums posted the link to this blindly not telling anyone what it was. I'm tarnished for life. :earseek:

You mean the smellorail? I read that it is the glue used on the carpet that was installed (in 1999 or 2000??) but you would think that it would have toned down a bit by now.

And I'm obsessive/compulsive about cleanliness, according to people. Now maybe DH won't complain anymore. Ewwww!

Civileng68, I saw the same site a long time ago and it is a bit disturbing. It's downright sacreligious to do something like that in WDW :earseek:

My theory on the smell is that it comes from the same people who apparently don't like to use deoderant or soap either that you were standing behind in line to get on the Haunted Mansion/POC/SM/insert attraction here :rotfl2: They ride the monorails too, ya know :teeth:

I still maintain that is is reconditioned and recirculated air. It has a 'chemical' type smell. It has never smelled 'organic' to me and that's what any type of body odor would be. But, that's how we know we are truly in WDW!!!

All joking aside, you are probably correct. It almost does smell like recirculated air, which probably also describes why they are so cold in there in the summer heat, because it's easier to keep recirculated air cold than fresh air.

I know what site you are talking about. One of my non disney friends sent a link to me as a joke and it was disgusting. There is no reason for anyone to behave like that in a family friendly place like Disney World. It seems some people take delight ruining families vactions by acting like idiots. I believe in keeping what you do and who you do it too in the privacy of your home, not on a monorail or theme park ride! Call me a prude if you want, but I believe in respecting other peoples rights to enjoy their vacation also.

I always thought it was a mold, due to all the moisture in the air. Mold grows EVERYWHERE here in Florida, given half a chance. It's always worse after a good rainstorm.

(Confession: I have gotten a little kissy-face in the monorail, but never to THAT extent! )

OMG :rotfl2:

I really need to see that site, I have never heard of such a thing :rotfl:

Could someone please tell me where to find this website - please please please......I could really use a good laugh.

If it's really bad, could someone PM it to me??? I don't want to offend anyone, and I would not want something gross posted on this forum where children could see it.

Gonga, sent you a private message to the link...dont open around children..i found it stupidly laughable.....

Thank you...I'm going to check it out now :flower:

Someone remind me to take anti-bacterial wipes to wipe the butt germs off my kids hands :crazy2: NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gross! I never would have imagined that folks would get naked on the monorail!!! I guess I am just naive.

I think the monorail smells like bandaids.

I know the smell you are talking about and has nothing to do with the previous mentioned things.
It is a plastic smell and yes does have a kind of bandaid smell. I just know when those doors open to the monorail and I smell that smell, I know we are at Disney.
Like the smell when we walk into the Contemporary lobby for the first time, I know that we are at our second "home"!!!!!

It's funny that someone mentioned Band-Aids because that's what I thought too. My brother works at a place where they manufacture copper wire and he comes home smelling like . . . you guessed it Band-Aids. He says he thinks it is the acetone they use at work. Don't know if there was maybe acetone used in the carpet adhesive but it seems like that smell would have diminished by now. Wierd. :confused3
