So what do you do when you have no more points!!!

I'm afraid that I would buy more points once I'm out and I wanted to go again. I think that I'm about 75 points short of my ideal number, but I'm trying to wait a little longer before I add on again!

call a friend!!
we ran out of points, so my dear friend transfered points she wasn't going to use to our acct, and i'm going to transfer the same amt back to her when my use year starts again.
we'll both be within the 1 transfer in/out per year rule, she found a use for the points she knew she wouldn't have the time to use, and will have enough next year to take a great vacation.
it was a perfect win-win solution.

btw, we've really good friends for years - i wouldn't consider trying this with just anyone :)

We rented points from another disboards member last week for a trip this December because all points were used in January.

We're getting to stay in a DVC studio for less cost than a moderate resort (accounting for tax) and significantly less than the 25% cash rate through MS. We did give up free dining by not booking a rack rate room, so after food will probably cost us a bit more than the moderate.

I'd recommend doing this. You can call MS to understand what locations are available on your dates and then hit the rent/trade board. Or, you can just get someone to transfer points to your account and do your own thing.

At $9-$11 per point it's still cheaper than paying cash and more space than a value.

If you have no more points, you stay home and plan a vacation when you do have more points.

And stop drinking the Kool-ade

I'm almost to the point-poor category myself. Time for a break and let the points accumulate again. I bought DVC so I wouldn't have to keep dishing out cash for trips to stay on site. Other than trying Universal's RP for a couple nights (next summer?) to experience their parks with their version of the fastpass given to guests, I'm going to stick to my rule.

If I were to go back to staying in a cash room it would have to be at POR or better. The value room we tried for the one night when we landed extra late was worse than camping in a 15' trailer.

We are running into this problem for next year. DH initially said we would just have to stay home; however, when our APs expired last week he said that I needed to find out the cost to renew vs. the cost of 3 day PH for our upcoming trip. The difference was not very much so he said we should get the AP just in case. Since e have them, we will have to make good use with a trip next year. Initially I thought we would just try one of the moderates we haven't stayed in, but I wonder what the cost difference is between the moderate and a small add on.

We plan our trips based on how many points we do have. As D&B said, no points; no trips and honestly never think about it.

We have enough for our wants.

I love this comment :lmao: Points are like money...if you run out of money you just, run out of money right? ;)

Rent a stay from an owner at Bonnet Creek (we are staying 7 nights Aug/Sept for $600) in a 2 bedroom.

---OR---

Rent points from another DVC member and stay home!

If I'm out of points, I'll consider staying offsite. I've stayed at Windosr Hills before when I was out of points. I NEEDED to have a washer dryer and kitchen, plus more space. It was my MIL, DS and I. With DS only 2, we could have fit into a regular WDW room, but I needed just a bit more space with my MIL. Plus, it was really cheap for a 3 bedroom condo.

If it's just a couple nights, I have paid the cash rates when I can get good deals to stay at DVC still.

This is how Disney gets us.

Step 1: Have us drink the kool aid;
Step 2: APs just make so much sense / cents;
Step 3: Can't "waste" the APs so book more trips;
Step 4: Use up all our points so in order to get the most out of our AP 'investment' we need to buy more points -or- book a cash room.

Ding! Ding! And the winner: Disney, every time. :lmao:

They got me up through step 3, but came to my senses right before I hit the 4th step. Phew!

Same with us. We work with what we have. We refuse to pay cash, as we have already given Disney $40,000 of our hard-earned money for our 360 points. We also do not borrow either - the most we have borrowed was 3 points, I think?

We made the mistake of paying cash off-site for our 1st night in March and 2 weeks ago, only because we got really cheap deals with free breakfast and gift card, and we were in Downtown Disney, so very close to check in to SSR. We won't be doing that again, as it's a waste of money. It wasn't a lot at all, but any money out of our pockets, is too much since we have points. We needed those few extra points for our nights at Vero, due to the point reallocation.

We would love to have a few more points, as the point reallocation cost us 33 points, and we aren't sure if there will be another. But, we are maxed out at 360 - I don't want to pay anymore in dues.

Hope the OP has a great vacation! Tiger

We'll we've added on a couple of times, we've transferred in points from another DVC member and we've paid cash when we've been short on points at different times over the last 5 years. We always seem to be borrowing no matter how many points we have.

I guess it would help if we didn't treat others when they come with us on our tirps.:rotfl: Oh well, that's why we have our DVC.

:sad: Not really but feels like it.

We have added days before or after out DVC stays but have not booked a trip without using at least some points.

For us for 6 nights Nov 28 for 6 nights the cost was under $1250.00 which included the free dining upgrade for a value and about $1800.00 for a moderate.

Definately cheaper than an add on and since there was no more availablity at any DVC resorts even if we wanted to rent points out this price came out cheaper.

I know it is a value but for this trip, we will be commando style and only in the room to sleep!!

Although DD15 and I love PopCentury (we have been there more than any other resort) but we love DVC studios even more. I am looking to add more points between now and 2012 since our 2 trips this year will have all our points through 2012 used.

We are in the same boat. We ALMOST bought more BLT points last week but decided to hold off for now. As twinklebug noted above, we bought AP's for the upcoming year and can't "waste" them so we have to keep going back! :lmao: We have a one week and two 4 day trips over then ext 12 months but had to borrow half our UY 2011 points to get that last reservation. It looks like either 2012 will mean fewer trips or more points...
