I had a great 2 week DVC vacation in June and have planned my 2 week May 2011 vacation. :)

And guess what.... no more points :scared1: So what is my next best alternative not to miss my November/December WDW fix......?

....go to POP with free dining.

I just booked airfare and the room package (room, tickets, dining) with an upgraded dining package. The price of the room package is about what I would have spent just on food and tickets ( NO AP's and we like TS dining) if I was staying at a DVC resort.

Unfortunately, it will not be my beloved DVC but I will get to see the WDW christmas decorations. :santa:

6 nights in a value is certainly better than no nights at a DVC resort I guess. Now, I am excited that I am going in 4 short months even if it isn't my usual DVC.

What I figure is that this trip will allow me to enjoy my 2 week DVC vacation next year even more :dance3:

Ohhhhh Nooooo

I understand why you had to, but I don't think I can go back to a value resort. DVC has certainly spoiled us!

I don't think I could do it. I went on a last minute (planned 1 week out) trip in Feb. with my son and his family and we stayed at CBR. It was OK, but I REALLY missed my DVC rooms. I am totally spoiled. But, then again - a day at Disney beats the h--- out of any other!

I agree with adminjedi... I think I would shorten my 2 weeks to maybe 8 or 9 days. Then you can always 'buy' those one time a year extra points and still stay at DVC!!! I agree that Value is better than no DVC but, <shudder> I just don't know if I could do it again.:scared1:

Call Disney, buy a 50 point contract, borrow from next year and you have a 100 points for this November. Depending on your UY, you may luck into an extra 50. I think there are still SSR, BLT, and AKL points for sale. Good luck.

I hope you have a great time! November/December is a great time to be at WDW, and I would rather be there than home. I like Pop, the resort and the food court. I'm glad you got something you're happy with!!!

Bobbi:goodvibes

LOL too funny but I agree about a regular hotel room we recently stayed in one and I kept telling DH that I was missing my DVC balcony and my living room

OP I would have done the same thing!!

I don't mind Pop and my dd's love it. They keep asking when we can go back.

I would stay in a cardboard box to be able to be there during the holidays!!

:santa:ENJOY!!!!:santa:

This is what I would have done!! No going to the values for us. We tried to stay there, even before we owned DVC (used to deluxe rooms) and couldn't do it.

Good for you, OP, that you found a way to make it work! I can't wait to get to a point where I can visit WDW twice a year.

I can completely relate to all sides of this... We Joined last May, (09) stayed at BLT MK view for our first visit in sept, BWV in Feb (10) for my B-day and booked for this Dec for Christmas. My DH wanted to badly to go to Starwars weekends, so we decided to bite the bullet and stay at Coronado.. :sad2: I don't think I could do that again. Granted we stayed at 2 DVC resorts within 5 months, but there is nothing like the smell of the Boardwalk Bakery at 7am and that first cup of coffee looking out at the Magic Kingdom while watching the Monorail drive bye.
I know that the extra week in May was great, but DVC locations, rooms, and atmosphere has just ruined every other resort for me... :rotfl2:

Any hotel we stay in is compared to DVC and reaffirms our decision to purchase.
At our recent DL stay, we booked late and the first couple days weren't available at VGC so we booked Paradise Pier. Not bad, but just soso, ok.

We gingerly withdrew from an extended family Hawaii timeshare because the quality just wasn't there. Great locations, but rundown and no customer care or amenities. Now we have Aulani, so now all is well!

:) Our next trip is 12/01-12/10. In looking at flights and prices, why not leave the evening before our arrival at AKV....so we are. Our first night of vacation we will arrive at our precious Pop 11/30, transfer over in the morning and be in the parks pronto. Just the fact that I am going to bed in WDW a night early is heaven....we love Pop. I have asked the supervisor to leave at lunch on the 30th and off we go.

If I am honest with myself I really have no more points left but instead I am a constant borrower. One year we probably need to skip or something so our points can replenish but I just don't know if I can do it. DH won't under any circumstances go for a value or moderate and the deluxe resorts are way to pricey. I don't want to stay off property either. Hmmmmmmmm... Maybe we could rent points.

I anticipate we'll do something exactly like you one day. We love our DVC, but the kids think Pop is pretty cool, and I wouldn't at all mind trying CBR or CSR sometime to get free dining in the fall. I have a 9 and a 12 year old and once they're both considered adults, I doubt we will be adding the dining plan to our DVC reservations anymore.

We made 2 short trips on the DVC member cash discount. But for what we spent on those 2 trips we could've done a small add-on. That is something I would consider before paying cash AGAIN. But definitely check the member discount rate to see if something's available before going with a value.

Oh I feel your pain... trust me...
We are using up 2 years worth of points already and just finding out at the last minute that we could be going to tokyo.
Ugh... if only I had saved up some points I could be staying at TDR hotels instead of hilton... sigh...
But if the choice is going to disney and staying on DVC vs. not going of course we'll pick the first option. But still paying cash for hotel hurts doesn't it? :)

If you have no more points, you stay home and plan a vacation when you do have more points.

And stop drinking the Kool-ade

Last year we wanted to celebrate New Year's Eve at Epcot. We had no points so we booked our stay at CBR. Our room was as big or a little bigger than the studios at BLT, minus a microwave and balcony.

We had a great time and would do it again if DVC points weren't available.
