So what did you do before the Dis?

I used travel guides. But since the internet, I created a binder, and print travel information from different websites, and use them as our guide.:sunny:

I use to spend way toooooo much money at the mall! Now with checking the Dis all the time I don't have time to shop!

Hmmm, is this a good thing......or a bad thing:confused:

I would normally go over my AAA book and send away for pamphlets on everything I can get my hands on. This is just too great! I have never been to WDW but feel like a beginner/expert! LOL. My husband says I spend more time at the computer.............LOL I don't think I will be "board" with my trip, 'cause I "know" so much.........I just think I will stress less 'cause I can guide my DH and DS(17) to a good trip and not stress about too many things.

I too!! have a binder full of printouts! It is a 1" binder and am filling up and may need a 1-1/2" !?!? that would be too thick to carry on flight! and read for the hours we will be flying from Calif. to FL..LOL :grouphug: ::MinnieMo

Spent way more money than necessary on my Disney vacations!

In addition to saving a fortune, the incredible tips I've gotten from people on this board have been priceless!!! Personal fave in my family is the Monorail Co-Captain! Never would have known about it except for you guys, now it's a tradition!!!

I have been using the Unofficial Guide & other guide books since 1989, the internet sure does save you alot of money an a better quality of info from all over the world.

I used to buy all the guides I could find on WDW and read them over and over, cover to cover..

Anyone who I knew who went to WDW I used to get them to bring me back free park handouts and free tour books from the area, and read them cover to cover.

I found a lot of neat tips and things I did not know here..nice to find out so many are as crazy about WDW as I am.

I used to be on the AOL disney message boards. It was great fun and we had a chat over there on tuesday and sunday nights....I'm not on aol anymore but I miss those chats.

Anybody else come to the dis from the AOL boards?

I used to work when I was supposed to .....::yes::

I agree w/ nowellsl, defininatly got more work done!!:D

I don't know how I ever went on my honeymoon w/ out planning anything at all. DH had been before (I hadn't) and knew a few tips, but nothing like now. After the 1st trip I found the books and now have found this! Isn't it great?!!:sunny:

I used to work when I was supposed to .....

LOL! Me, too! Actually I found the DIS about 3 years ago, but we only got internet at work a year ago!

ME, minnieluvzmickey. I used to love those boards. The people there were very helpful. The only problem was I couldn't read them at work (you had to have AOL loaded on the computer.) (I wouldn't have abused it... seriously.)

I remember one year they gave a hint that if there were two lines, you should take the left line to get on the ride faster. Also remember a lady named Maria who seemed to know everything about the different resorts on-site and off-site. She was almost as good as my ***********.

I only kept AOL for the Disney boards, but noticed that the traffic was diminishing considerably. By the time I cancelled AOL, I didn't even miss it because I had something much better in these boards. Guess those other people were "crossing over" to the wonderful DisBoards, just like me.

We read every guide we could get our hands on too, and spent wayyyyyy too much money booking through our travel agent. I remember back then we paid 1200-1600 (4 of us) airfare without batting an eye.

This trip our airfare came to $466 total. We all know how much money I saved on the room and buying length of stay (back then) passes. Not to mention the we'd add on the "food and fun" option. I admit, that wasn't such a bad plan, but you did spend wayyyyyyyyy too much time in restaurants.

I've not looked back since I found The DIS! Forget the food plans, with the savings I have today, that alone probably covers all the food for the entire trip.

I used a travel agent. When I found the DIS boards, my motivation wasn't to save $, but to just have the fun of planning everything myself. The extra bucks that stayed in our pocket was a wonderful surprise bonus! And, we have done and seen so many little exciting extras on each trip - things we wouldn't have ever known about if it wasn't for the DIS!

I can still remember in the very early 90s when I had my first home computer, I think it was a IBM PS2 (could be wrong) that cost me a small fortune. Today it would cost $49.95. Anyhow, I hooked it up and it came with a membership to the online service Prodigy. I accessed Prodigy, played around with it a bit, and at some point entered key word Disney. To my amazement a graphic of Disney World came up and there was a Disney World bulletin board. I couldn't believe that I could find out all about Disney World (and bunches of other stuff) on my own right at a computer. Changed my life forever.

Other big computer moment from early 90s- I downloaded a little shareware program which would say words over my computer speakers. Loaded the program and it said something like "hello" over the speakers. It was 11:30 at night but I woke up my wife to have her listen to scratchy "hello" over the speakers. She was not quite so impressed.
