I would like to comment on Joe's statement also.
This year our gross income is "almost" $100,000. We are FAR from wealthy. And just for the record, my husband doesn't have a cush job sitting in an office 9 to 5 making that money, he works THREE jobs to give us what we have. He is a firefighter/paramedic for two different cities and he works at a hospital in telemetry. My husband works his *** off, so I take offense with your statements. My husband has EARNED what we have.
And as far as our "Infiniti"...PLEASE. I drive a 5 year old Dodge Caravan and my husband drives a 2 year old Toyota Camry. The only reason he even has the newer Camry is because our 1992 Toyota Corolla was flooded during the bad floods in Houston a couple of summers ago, otherwise, he would still be driving that.
And our home......while a nice home, our neighborhood is the "poor people" neighborhood. We have big beautiful new homes all around us, so our 15 year old 2000 square foot house is NOTHING for our area. For vacations....we only take them every two years (to Disneyworld of course

) and stay at the All-Stars.
So please, don't assume that a person who has on paper $100,000 a year is living the high life. After medical, dental(we too have the cheapest plan offered through my husbands job) and all the other stuff that is taken out, we actually only see about $55,000 to $60,000 a year (which is far from rich for a family of 5). And out of all the "stuff" that is taken out, only $540 a year is for investments/savings.
I do realize we are very blessed to have a roof over our head, food in our stomaches, and cloths on our backs.. and I can name several other things, so believe me, I'm not griping about our situation. But I don't agree we should have to pay more than we already do to the goverment. Nothing has ever been given to us, and when we started out 13 years ago we only made $16,000 a year, so I KNOW what poor is. But like I said, my husband has worked HARD for what we have and we deserve every penny.
