So what are people thinking about the MYW packages With Dining?

I think it sounds interesting. Can't wait to see how it all pans out!

Sounds like a good deal to me:

I also saw another thread that if you have an existing reservation with the BDP code they will honor it for the package. That sweetens the deal.

Feedback, please. :wizard:
I don't know about the honoring of codes if you change to a MYW package. According to Magical Journeys (another internet Disney based TA) they are being told that Disney WILL NOT honor the discount if you change a previously booked CRO discount to a MYW package.
At this time we are being told that discounts will be negated if changed to a MAGIC YOUR WAY package from a Room only Reservation with CRO. If you are traveling on a discounted room only rate and have already purchased your ticket media, you may be better off leaving your reservation as is.

Interesting. I'm sure there's still a lot that needs to be ironed out. I'm going to call myself and see what I can find out and repost later. In the meantime, here's another opinion:

I called the CRO tonight. The CM I spoke with said they cannot discuss MYW packages until January 2nd but she said she "didn't see why not" when I asked if they'd honor the BDP codes for an existing reservation while adding the dining option. I guess we'll have to wait and see. :confused3

I would agree that it is great if not for the children's rate cutting off at age 9. Without the plan, DS11 can still order off of the children's menu for much less than the $35 adult rate (and as a picky eater, the adult offerings just don't interest him much). I don't understand why they did it this way unless they are planning to change the age limits across the board?

I was just reading about this on MOusesavers. It definitely sounds like a bargain for kids! I'm printing out the list of dining locations, then heading over to Deb's menus to see if it will save money for me and DH.

I agree if the kids are older than 9 and not big eaters it might not be such a good deal. Disney will probably need to look at that. Right now my kids are both 7 so for this trip, anyway, it'll probably work (that is, IF I can keep my BDP code, lol). princess:

I think that the MYW dining package would be a great option for our family, even though our DS is 11 and kind of eats in spurts at this age (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot). We generally eat one counter service and one table service meal each day when at WDW, although it is rare we each order an appetizer and dessert for our sit-down meal. Anyway, we tend to spend $700-$900 per week without the plan, so the MYW dining cost would fall at $735 per week for us. If we added a light breakfast, at our own cost, It would still be less than $900 week for us. Our DS does like to try new foods and probably would think it was cool to order multiple courses for our table service meals. In looking at the menus for the participating restaurants, I can see where we would come out way ahead and that the table service meals could easily be in excess of $35 pp without this package. I think the restaurant options are pretty good with MYW, however I am sorely disappointed with the lack of offerings at DTD.

It is because they are considered an adult for park ticketing. 3-9 is a child ticket and 10 and older is an adult ticket. Because the package includes the park tickets they are considered juniors (10-17), which makes them show up on the reservations as adults... I agree with you though it might be more economical if there was a tweens price just for this package, that would give a little break on the food part. Maybe a 10-13 or something... But... that is why it is set up that way.

I wish the would let AP holders add on the MYW Dining Plan. My kids are under 9 so it would only cost me $100 a day. I know we spend way more than each day.

I understand about the park tickets and the package, but since the dining plan is a separate part of the package it doesn't seem like it should be that difficult to include the 10/11 year olds for the child's price if they are only allowed to order off of the child's menu. But it is the way it is, so we'll have to decide if it's worthwhile for our family to give it a try. If it would encourage my DS to try new things it just might be worth it. :)

We're thinking of trying it out because it sounds too good to be true. We're going to wait for some feedback from Disboard members before booking though.

While I think it's definately a good value, I don't think that it fits our needs. We don't have kids and most of the time, we are ok with eating counter service a couple of times a day. We can eat cheaper, especially when you factor in RFC gift certificates that family or points programs provide to us along the way or Planet Hollywood VIP cards that get you in quicker and can be purchased in advance. Not to mention the AK Meal Deal, if they don't do away with it, that is a wonderful way to save some on the food budget.

Don't get me wrong, we love table service dining at WDW, but for the most part, we are usually just as happy with a burger, a chicken wrap, a hot dog, or a turkey leg. We usually budget $100/day for food, but rarely have gone that high. I enjoy taking the leftover funds to buy more pins for our collection. :earboy2: Maggie

I'm sure 10/11 yos will be able to order off the adult menu if you're buying the package and paying an adult price.

If you're not on a package, a 6yo can order from the adult menu. In the "old days", our oldest son would usually order from the adult menu when he was grade school age even though we were on the Gold plan. Our younger two were more the chicken strips or burgers type when they were maybe 6-10...or maybe 12 :D .

If it would encourage my DS to try new things it just might be worth it. :)[/QUOTE]

You know, that was one aspect of the Gold plan that I really came to appreciate over the years. All of our children tried a wider variety of food as they experimented at WDW.

I initially went round and round with this. I thought I had decided NOT to do it, but if they will let me keep my discounted room rate then more negotiations could be in order! The MYW tickets will cost us more than the old 4 Day Hoppers. If our room rate increases then it pretty much negates any savings from the Dining Package. I also don't think we would eat appetizer and dessert at every sit-down meal. But if I decide it won't cost us MORE then we will probably do it. If I can get through on the reservation line before we leave! I will absolutely not waste time once we arrive trying to juggle the silly dining thing - it won't save us THAT much!

I will have a son that will be turning 10 a month after we return next year. It's great planning for ticket prices since he will still be considered a child, however, there is no way he will eat off the kids menu for a week! He is just turning 9 tomorrow, and already eats off the adult menu at most restaurants, and ate almost entirely off the adult menu a month ago when we were at WDW.

I would be willing to pay for an adult meal plan for him, just so he could order off the adult menu. I hope they will let me do that without paying for the adult ticket! I guess I will have to wait and see.

I'm sure we could save money eating more economically. Our upcoming trip in January is a "budget" trip so we're looking for ways to save (we'll have a car and were planning to go offsite for a few meals). But this dining plan seems to make sense for us right now because our kids are still young enough to qualify for the child price, and by knocking a couple of things off our budget if we do take the dining plan (like a fridge for 6 nights at Pop and a grocery stop, etc...) then it should pretty much even itself out. And for this trip it will be pretty special to try a few places we've never been before as well as some other tried and true favorites!

I think DH and I now will be disappointed if we decide not to do the MYW tickets and dining package. ;) Sure hope they'll honor that BDP code!! :wizard:

The thing I don't like about it is, the dining option is connected with the resort nights, not the park tickets. So if you stay for 7 nights, but only get a 5 day park pass, you still have to buy 7 days of dining.
