So what am I doing wrong???

I am very new to the concept of "renting" DVC points. In fact, I am not sure what it is really all about despite reading the FAQ's!
However, I went to the point calcualtor and entered our dates, Jan. 4, 2003 - January 10, 2003. I entered several different places to stay but when I submitted the inforamtion, and the screen pop ups "The number of points are ..." (or something along those lines) there is no amount of points provided. What am I doing incorrectly?

Basically, you are making a private arrangement with a DVC owner to use a reservation that they have made/will make. It's kind of like renting someone's cabin on the lake, etc. However, the habit seems to be that folks charge "per point" that they use to make the reservation rather than just telling you it will be "X$" to use my reservation.

As for what you are doing wrong....it isn't working for me either. Must be a problem with the calculator. If you want to tell us what you are curious about, maybe myself and/or others here on the board can provide the info.

The calculator is not set up to handle 2003 dates yet, that's all... Look on this years current calendar & pick the same days as you want for next year & input those dates... (not necessarily the same dates because that might not give you too many weekend days which are expensive)... HTH.... Oh, once you pick your dates, go look on the rent/trade board for an owner who is renting points, generally it's 9 or 10 dollars per point...

DVC point renting is only a good deal when staying at one of the DVC properties....

Make sure you put 01/04/2003- 01/10/2003. If you don't enter two digits for the month and day it won't work.

These members of the DisBoards never cease to amaze me with their willingness to answer all questions, and provide as much informations as possible!
I will try the calculator again, using January 2002 dates, and entering the dates in the format suggested by posters.
I was basically looking at availability for the dates I posted, January 04, 2003 through January 10, 2003 (departing 1/11/03).
I am interested in renting points for a moderate resort, CBR or along those lines.

You may find that the rental pts will be better used at one of the DVC resorts IMHO. You get more "bang" for your "buck" w/ DVC resorts than the moderates etc. Good Luck.

Brittsmum is right. Using points at resorts, especially a moderate, will probably end up costing you more than a discount direct from Disney. Figuring $10 per point, a weekday would be 16 points ($160) and Friday or Saturday night 24 points or $240. A studio at DVC would be roughly 12 & 22 points or $120 weekdays and $220 weekends.

It may be a lot cheaper to get a discounted cash room at the CBR using AAA or AP or some other means, than using DVC points. It's not a good or economical use of points to use them at non-DVC Disney resorts. In 2002, the points for a standard view on Sun-Thursday was 18/night. That's about $180 per night. Friday and Saturday was 32/night. That's about $320/night. I think they went up for 2003, so it would be even more.
