So, We've given up on those summer room only codes?

I was so diligently checking these boards every day just waiting to hear about the room only codes I need for my trip in August. But then, slowly, I've given up hope. The chatter about the codes certainly has decreased! I don't have 7 days to spend at WDW, so the current special and AP rate won't help me. It makes me mad that I'm paying more to stay at POP than others staying at the moderates!

My friend, who went with me in 1999, just got a post card from Disney with a discount code!! I was the one who booked and paid for the room then, she was just a registered guest! I've gotten post cards in the years I wasn't able to go...of course! I really think that if I hadn't of booked a room when I did (2 days after I ordered the vacation CD that I have NEVER gotten), then I would have gotten a post card. That really gets my dander up!!!! SssssssOOOoo frustrating

I'm going to call and express my frustrations...but I don't think it'll get me anywhere. I've thought about cancelling my room and seeing if that'll get me a post card...but it seems a little risky!

Right now I'm living with the AAA rate of 94/night.

Cancelling your room to get a post card seems a little risky to me.

This is the double edged sword of discounting rooms. Disney doesn't have to discount at all but they release some rooms at better rates.

I would hold on to what you have and just keep watching to see if any other deals become available.

I think we need to be even more patient. I am waiting for a room only code since we added one day to our 7/4 deal. We are arriving a day early and we're going to stay one night at the Animal Kingdom Lodge before we head over to the Boardwalk Inn. The codes were there last year, even with the Fairytale package. All we can do is hope that they are here once again this summer.

Cancel your room and stay offsite. Look at Mousesavers. You can stay at the Hotel Royal Plaza in a Tower room for $69. Plus if you stay 4 nights, you get the 4th night free!! This is at Downtown Disney and has decent bus transportation - if you do not have a car. If you have a car, you can stay at Cypress Pointe in a 2 Bedroom villa with washer/dryer and kitchen for $64. This is right outside Downtown Disney. Check out hotelkingdom.com for this deal.

Isn't the All Stars $99 plus tax in regular season?? You can make your opinion heard by Disney if you spend your money elsewhere (offsite hotel).

I am only staying at Pop Century because I got the special Disney Visa deal. Otherwise I was leaning towars Cypress Pointe.

I really feel for you! That really stinks. You might try to call and ask for a Manager - explain about the postcard from your friend, maybe have it in hand if possible so they can look it up, and explain how you were the ones to book and pay for the room! It is worth a shot! You might get a sympathetic manager who can maybe do something for you...you never know.

Is there any way you can schedule another trip within a year of your scheduled trip to take advantage of the AP???

I agree with las3888. Have the postcard in hand, and make the call. They can look up the stay from last time, I'm sure. I got a postcard last summer and ended up not using it as the dates were only good through early July. We had plans for the 3rd week in July. I read somewhere on this board that someone had luck with the postcard rate even after it expired. Is your friend traveling with you on this trip? That might help as well. I think go for it and give it a try. The most they can say is "No".

Good luck! :wave2:

I agree. Call 'em up, tell 'em your friend received a discount code post card that she is not going to use and ask 'em if they are willing to apply it to an existing reservation. The worst thing that can happen is they will say no. If you really are, you might even mention to them that you are considering changing your res to stay off property, but if you can have that discount applied, it will certainly persuade you to leave your reservation right where it is.

Just my suggestion.

Cindy,

How many days are you going? Have you tried to caculate what it would cost you buying one AP rather than a park hopper pass? Include the room savings. Remember that with the AP you do have a few extra savings too. And see if you can maybe save overall. Then if you go to Disney again within the next year you will not only be able to take advantage of AP rates again you will have one park ticket paid for.

Take Care
Jamie

Thank you for all the advice. I will call CRO to explain my frustration with my friend getting the post card...and that I didn't.

I don't think that the AP makes sense for me this trip. We only have 3 days for the parks. I do not think that we will get back before the year is up, because I am going to Ireland next summer with my oldest son, and there's no way I can afford to do both. (unless, of course, i get a windfall...win the lottery...:p ...but then if that happened, what would I care what the tickets cost!!;) )

I have very seriously considered staying off site. Even for just the principal of it all. But my 8 year old is SOOOO set on staying on property. I really think that staying at the resorts is as exciting to him as going to the parks. We had really hoped to stay at Coronado Springs or Port Orleans-Riverside; but that's too much without the codes....but staying at POP should be great too.....so I have said to him..."how about if we stay at a less expensive hotel and stay an extra day at the parks with the savings"....and he'd still rather stay at the POP with less days in the parks.... So, i might just have to bite the bullet and at some point (after I fight the good fight) just accept it as it is and enjoy our trip.

On a really good note, I did get reservations at CRT for breakfast during our stay....and that is a GOOD thing!! He doesn't care about eating with the princess....(not that there's anything wrong with that ;) -seinfeld reference-) he just wants to eat in the Castle!

Thanx again for the advice...i'll check back in with how the phone call goes...

Have you checked into the annual passholder rate. That might help. I think the code is AZB and the rates are 69.00,84.00, 114.00. The rates are good from 7/5-8/28.

I'd love to use that rate, but I don't have an AP and don't have the need for one.:(

Thanx for the tip though.

If you did not receive a postcard with a PIN # then you will not be able to get the discount. The PIN # is in the system under your address can cannot be used unless it is there.

Sorry

I'd love to use that rate, but I don't have an AP and don't have the need for one.

Are you sure you don't have the need for an AP. Did you do the math?

My son and I are only going to the parks for 3 days. And I will not be getting back to WDW within a year. I'm pretty sure the cost of the AP is much more than a 3-day UPH pass, even when I'd factor in the hotel discount. If I'm wrong....please enlighten me. Maybe there is something I'm missing.

~Thanx,

Regular room rate $109 (peak season @ Pop Century)
AP rate $69
Savings per night $40

3 night/4 day UPH $239
AP (adult) $318
Price difference $79.00

If you stay for two nights you will recoup the difference between your AP and UPH pass. If you stay for three nights, you will come out ahead, because you are spending $80 more for your AP but you are saving $40/night off your room.
If you wanted to do the water parks you would have to figure in that and decide if it is worth it or compare the prices to the park hopper passes.

You said you were going with your son. How old is your son? You can also get the AP rate with a Child's Annual Pass, which would save you even more $.

I am getting the POP room for the AAA rate and I'm paying about 97 with taxes per night (not sure what the base rate is and can't find my info right now). So over 3 days it's costing me about $90
more. (a little less because of the taxes)

I am getting the 2 night 3 day UPH which is $161 (adult advance purchase price) and $129 (child advance purchase price).

An adult AP is $379(according to Disney's site today)
A child AP is $322

Difference for me is $218
Difference for my son is $193

If the adult has to have the AP then I would still be paying more for the AP than I would save. 218-90= $128

Even if it would be OK for just my son to have the AP, then I would still be paying about $100 more for my stay. 193- 90= $103

So in the end I'd still be paying more. But wow...if I knew that we'd be getting back there...then I for sure would be getting the AP. Watch...something will happen next year...and I'll be kicking myself because i'll be able to go.

But....I really want to go to Ireland...so I don't need to have the distraction of knowing I have a Disney AP burning a hole in my pocket. :p

I wonder what the math would be if I stayed at a moderate? Would the AP rate be $89? I don't know what the AAA rate would be for moderate.

Also, can I book a room based on my child's AP only?

Gee.....I REALLY JUST WANT A ROOM ONLY CODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~cINDY z IN ct

I have the same AAA rate as you for the POP in July. For the moderate, just take off %15 of the rack rate (I think that is $144 for a standard...making the AAA $122.40).

I think it is very hard to calculate AAA discount rates. It seems they very depending on the date. I have checked to different time frames and the discount was never what I thought it should be (10-15%). It was always much lower and variable depending on the date/resort. Does anyone know how to get the actual AAA rate without calling CRO? It's hard to compare without that information and it seems WDW corners the market on their pricing structure.
