Hi yet again :thumbsup2

So we are defo going to Folrida at last :)

We will go last week Nov 2012 for 2 weeks. We are finding best prices / places to book and will make a confirmed booking within 6 weeks or so - we are waiting that long as some travel agents with have their charter flights then.

We think we will stay at Embassy Suites at idrive OR Lvb - we like the look of the rooms and the breakfast looks great ! Idrive one is coming in expensive - anyone know a good website to book that ? Lbv very cheap !

We will do 7 days at Disney then have a couple of days off then do Universal ect, is it best to stay on idrive with that itinerary?

My son has A.S.D (Asperger Syndrome) and will be scared of flying and stressed in the parks - anyone know what we can do about this? I have heard you can get a card at Disney which allows you to jump the waiting time like fast passes? Is this true?
Will we be able to get on the flight first?

So many more questions :confused3

JC loves you.

I am interested in replies about ASD too as my son also has that. We go this August.

I cant really help you with info about staying off site as we have not done so since 2002.

With regards to the card to help you and your son, the card is call the Guest Assistance Card or GAC for short.
These can be obtained from guest services at each park. Under US law you will not be required to provide any medical information.
You then present your card to the CM at each attraction and you will directed to a more appropriate waiting area depending on your needs.

This does not mean you will always skip the queue but you will avoid waiting with lots of other people.

Hope this helps and happy planning.

Thanks for your reply, so I don't need to take our dla letter? This is all new to us :confused3

There are many parents of Asd children on these boards and I'm sure everyone had different advice! For us we find boarding the plane last is easier for ds than first as we found he coped better that way!!
In the air we find he is at his most comfortable headphones and watching his choice of tv what more could he need??
Before the first trip we watched a lot of videos on YouTube of planes taking off so the fear of not knowing what to expect was eradicated!!!
Gatwick have a ASD friendly pamphlet which walks you through the airport and security procedures and this can be downloaded from their website!!
If you haven't already I would also speak to the airlines special needs dept where they will allow you to pre book confirmed seats where you feel your ds will be most comfortable!!
Hope that helps xxx

Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You will find information about Guest Assistance Cards in post # 6 of that thread.

Hi

Our son also has mild aspergers. I don't know who you are flying with, but when we flew with Virgin, they were brilliant. I gave them a call and they sent DS a huge poster of Dancing Queen (one of the 747s) and some postcards of the planes too. He thought that was great and couldn't wait to meet the real plane!

We also got him some ear defenders which look like headphones for the plane and the noisier shows and fireworks, the only place they didn't help was Illuminations at Epcot, but he was pretty tired by then too! We go back in Feb and he has already said that as long as he has his ear defenders he will be fine.:goodvibes

Feel free to PM if you like.
