So, was it really that hot yesterday (Friday)?

Hello from a fellow Riverside-er. I can confirm it’s one of the hottest points in recent memory. Only day I can remember that was worse was Labor Day 4-5 years ago where it was 115 and humid
Hi! I had one remaining sibling in Riverside. Until literally 4 weeks ago. Her DH retired and they moved to TN!!! Sold their house of 20+ years, packed their stuff, and were gone. Still have an uncle and a zillion cousins. My father and grandfather were both born there.

I know that most people find it pretty hard to deal with, but we are from Texas and have hiked in 100+ weather. We know how to stay hydrated and how to cover up from the sun. Don't get me wrong though, I am pretty happy that when we get there next weekend the weather looks to be pretty nice. I prefer to go somewhere on summer vacation that has better weather than at home.

What about the characters enclosed in those costumes. ouch!!
Most characters were not outside doing meet and greets. Goofy was meeting in the Carthay Circle entrance inside. Pluto was in the photopass shop at dca. Only outside characters I saw were tiana and cruela in town square. So face characters. I did see Minnie there too but she was completely in the shade and the only fur character I saw outside today.

So how far off are these temperatures from the norm?
I am a WDW regular but never go in the summer because it’s too hot. I was thinking about trying Disneyland next summer and went on my weather app this week just to get an idea of what the weather is like this time of year there. When I saw the triple digit temps, I said “hard no.” Then I gave up on Disneyland trips bc it’s too far for us to travel for short trips, and that’s all we can do outside of the summer time.
However, if this is a freak heatwave, I maybe have some hope.

This was a total freak heatwave. Last weekend, temps were in the high 70s, low 80s. Next weekend, temps are forecasted in the 80s again. I don't know what caused it, but it was a brief, intense spike, and now it's going down again.

It is not the norm. You can google "Los Angeles weather history", for instance, https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/los-angeles/historic. The first couple of hits should provide a better presentation, but it does not seem to work now. So it depends on the luck, while the Friday after independence day both last year and this year are very hot, and last year there were a couple of hot days nearly every month in summer, it's a low percentage compared to the number of days.

Some of those near DLR were the highest reported temperatures of all time recorded history - any day of any year. DLR is near Santa Ana.

I went several summers in a row as a young child church camping at Palomar Mountain.....glad it wasn't a heat wave then!!!!

We had a similar heatwave in September 2010. The heat from the desert goes out to the ocean. They call it a heat dome I think - it's not typical and will only last a few days.

Which was exacerbated by the Santa Ana winds that usually visit that time of year. We had just moved to Kansas and my parents in San Diego were having worst temps then us.

Total freak. Should have been around mid-80s on Friday. Then high 80s/low 90s until end of August, mid-80s until end of September. We had a very late start to summer here. Temps were 5-10 degrees below average in June. We had a 69 degree day on a day that should have been about 20 degrees hotter.

Poor CMs...wearing themed clothing. It would be very, very difficult to remain cheerful. I'd probably faint.
I hope Disneyland took extra precautions with their employees with extra breaks, etc. Some of the clothing they wear is more suited for winter time. I felt bad for the CM's at the turnstiles. They were in the shade but many of them are older and I think the heat was harder on them.

Did people get refunds from the Max Pass being unavailable for so long?

My guess is no, as it is quite clear that there will be no refunds even in case of malfunctions, if someone really had issues they probably gave them a few multi experience FPs, seems to be the default solution.

I read elsewhere that anyone who asked for a MP refund was given one.

I was there Friday and it was pretty miserable. I think I spent $35.00 on water. The Pixar Play parade was canceled. You couldn't sit on the top deck of the Mark Twain. Splash and Pooh went down for hours. Big Thunder went down as well. The app going down was pretty bad the customer service line was huge. When I went back to the hotel around 2:00pm my phone said it was 115. I came back around 6:00pm and it was 109. Most of the outside carts in downtown Disney were closed. Usually I can just find a seat on Main St and enjoy the day. Not that day. The one good thing is the crowds were light. Most of the fantasy Land stuff had a 5 min wait. I think Peter Pan was only a 30 min wait.

It was 104 in Tucson with a stiff breeze. I can't imagine what it would be like with humidity.

This should help with that question:
