Gee...the heck with the 'paying' customers....Eisner is again thinking only of #1!!!

As reported last week (link), the 75 six-foot-tall Mickey Mouse statues from the 75 InspEARations event abruptly disappeared from display at Walt Disney World overnight on February 24 because they had been “invited to a very special event at another location, which has resulted in their early departure.” It has now been revealed that the “special event” will be the Walt Disney Company's annual shareholder meeting in Philadelphia this week. The 75 shows of support might not help Disney Chairman and CEO Michael Eisner, though. And don't expect photo opportunities, either. Cameras, recording devices, and other electronic devices will not be permitted at the meeting.

Sheesh!

I was a bit worried about the statues getting damaged though...a lot of rude guests were going under the ropes and hanging off of the statues of pictures. I saw one person stick some gum in the ears of one of the statues, laugh with her girlfriends, then walk away! Luckily, security saw this and cleaned it off right away.

Hmm.. hubby works right near the hotel where the shareholder meeting is.

I wonder if he could actually just walk into the hotel see the statues and all.

I'm not exactly sure why that's a problem

I thinks its the Loew's hotel on 12th & something.. I want to say Spruce but I might be wrong.

The Disney Shareholder meeting is being held at the Philadelphia Convention Center. It is located at 11th and Spruce.

I guess what is confusing to me is that shareholders are paying customers too right? I mean because they paid for their stock.

I guess it's ashame if people planned a trip around the statues being there until April, but I think it will be nice for the shareholders to see at the convention too.

I don't see the big deal either. I doubt many people visited WDW just to see them, so I can't imagine anyone being too up in arms about it. It's nice that the people that own the company will get a chance to check them out I suppose.

I'm also not sure how that translates into Eisner looking out for himself. I imagine he thinks the shareholders will be pleased, which is one of the things he's supposed to be concerned with. I guess he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

While we didn't plan our trip around these statues, we did find out about them before we went and were really excited to see them. So I'm sure that there will be some very disappointed people over the next few weeks. I think it is kind of stinky to remove them without prior warning/notice if they said that they would be there until a certain date.

I too noticed MANY people going under the ropes for pictures.... saw several parents telling their kids to go under the ropes!! Don't people have any respect any more?? The ropes are there for a reason..... hello!!! Or do those folks think that the rules just don't apply to them!! Are they too special?? Sorry, just had to vent!..........................P

I guess it is just like any change at WDW, especially if a stated time is given to something. If they say 'we are having E-nights on such and such nights' or 'Fantasmic!, 2 shows a night' and then change it, people get disappointed, if they were planning on it. When Disney said they were going to have the statues there until April or whatever, the shareholder meeting was obviously scheduled. The ending of the dispaly in FL and shipping them off to PA is a change in plans, which, understandably, to me, might disappont some who were expecting to be able to see them on their WDW visits the next several weeks. For what reason, (and there is a reason, those things don't 'just happen') is certainly up to conjecture. And we all know, everything said in Orlando is 'always subject to change', no matter what it is.

And shareholders are not paying customers, they are investors in the company.

Gee I wonder who gets to absorb the cost of shipping them both ways???????

With respect to Mike Eisner taking care of #1, let's check his rank Wednesday afternoon;)

Security should have stopped the girl, then given her the opportunity to clean the gum herself or get off Disney property
