Totally disagree.....China has been stealing IP for years. They have no respect for contracts they sign or copyrights or trademarks or patents. The courts do whatever the government tells them to do.

Disney is taking it seriously to head it off, but I doubt in the end they will have any luck.

This is only a part of a continuing BIG STORY.

What do we know though?

We know the Government of Shanghai has entered into an agreement with the Walt Disney Company. We also know that it's beneficial for both Shanghai and The Walt Disney Company to protect their property. Why? Because now that they're partners every time that IP appears in a Wanda Park they're stealing from not only the Walt Disney Company, but also the Government of Shanghai. Shanghai may not be representative of the entire Chinese National Government , but they do have extensive power regionally and within the government.

This sort of behavior is not going to last.

The other side of the coin is China throws Disney out and just takes over. Uses Disney IP in areas outside of Shanghai, like those areas Wanda is looking to build in. You are assuming China is a honest government and business world. Well its not. Granted there is a lot of criminal activity in business, world wide, in China it is supported by what government says.

My point is much more then just Disney, China has been doing this to many investor companies for years. Most recent was the French group high speed train. They agreed to build the systems in China. A year later China introduced their own , very similar system to he world market. The French filed a law suit........so far it never saw the light of day.

They get away with it, as the CEO can never see beyond the next quarters bottom line and their own bonuses.

Good points. But a cynical person might also say that if the other park wants to pay more (be they taxes or bribes) than Disney does where would the Government of Shanghai stand in the IP question?

This is a really sad post to see, not just because it's Disney but ,because it's always upsetting to see fellow artists work getting ripped off. Copyright Infringement is a serious thing and I'm glad Disney is taking a stand against it on a global scale, fanwork is one thing but trying to make money off someone else's property is another. All politics aside, I hope Disney wins and puts a stop to this as a show that it's not okay to rip off another's work. And yes I'm against the rip offs in NYC too and hope someday that ends (plus they're creepy too!)
