I should be sitting on a plane to Frankfurt right now, instead I'm back home having spent the best part of 3 hours at Heathrow. My flight was cancelled and the earliest flight we were offered is Sunday evening. As we have to be home Monday afternoon that was no good.

We did try to get standby seats on the last flight this evening, but after 3 very long waits at 3 different desks we had no luck.

sorry to hear that, DH has just come back from frankfurt into heathrow terminal 5, he was due to land at 3pm, he finally got out of luggage claim at 7.30. they're seriously behind schedule today

No, we're rigidly tied to our dates for this weekend away so we'll just have to claim a refund. We're looking at trying to get to Birmingham (for their "Frankfurt Market") on Sunday.

At least I only live 20 minutes from Heathrow and was home in my nice warm bed last night.

I really wasn't impressed with Terminal 5 at Heathrow. It might be nice airside, but I was stranded before security with very few facilities - it makes me appreciate Gatwick. The worst part was the isolation - we only had info (and not very much of it) for BA flights. If we'd been in another terminal we might have been able to rebook with another airline.

Had a good couple of days in Birmingham. Lovely, authentic market. Stayed at the Burlington Hotel which is in the same street as some of the market. The weather was very cold at -4 the German people on the stalls said that Frankfurt reached -18 this weekend. I don't think I'd have coped with that!


I haven't been to Birmingham for about 20 years - it's totally changed. Didn't like the new Bull Ring as it seems to have pulled the heart out of Corporation Street. Most of the city was very shabby. I would probably only go back for the Christmas market.
