Hi all. Just venting. My sister & brother who live in N.Cal. asked me to meet them at Disneyland for spring break (coming out from VA). This is the only time we can all go & it's for my brother's birthday. I was all excited to be able to get the Military tickets due to the already high cost of the trip. Unfortunately, that one week when we can go is blacked out & we can't use them. I almost wish they hadn't offered them at all, I got so excited about saving that money. The blackout dates are of course listed at the end of the promotion in small print. :headache: Oh well, I guess we will be shelling out the extra money and only going for 2 days instead of almost 3 days. At least we get to go to Disney!! :woohoo:

Wow! We have military tickets to go the last week of March. I didn't know there were black out dates. Off to check now....

Maybe they shouldn't offer it if people are going to be ungrateful for the fact that they offer it at all. Sorry you have to pay what the rest of us would.:confused3

Sorry to hear that. I for one appreciate your service and the sacrifices you and your family make for our Country as a member of our military.

I am glad they offer discounts to our military. My opinion there shouldn't be blackout dates. Thanks for your sacrifice to keep us safe.

Wow, that sucks that your plans have to change. The 2 days should be a blast though.

I also appreciate your service and the sacrifices you and your family make for our Country as a member of our military.

BTW, ignore the haters Deb. You said you were just venting, you weren't being ungrateful.

Oh no!! That is too bad! I didn't know that there were black out days either! I looked it up and just to let everyone know, here are the blackout dates from the Disney Parks Blog:

In addition, Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets (including any options) for the Walt Disney World Resort may not be used on the following blockout dates: Dec. 27, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2010, and April 17, 2011, through April 23, 2011, at all Walt Disney World Theme Parks and other gated attractions; and July 4, 2011, at Magic Kingdom Park; and Disney 3-Day Military Promotional Tickets for the Disneyland Resort may not be used on the following blockout dates: Dec. 24, 2010, through Jan. 1, 2011, Feb. 18, 2011, through Feb. 21, 2011, April 17, 2011, through April 23, 2011, and July 1, 2011, through July 4, 2011, at the Disneyland Theme Parks.

I appreciate the sacrifices our military make for us as well. I just feel people suffer from "entitlement" syndrome. It is what it is, and be thankful they do anything at all.

I'm not a "hater". I just have a different view on it.

They are entitled - to all we can give them for the freedoms and liberties we live every day. The tickets should be free to our military!!!

I think your right, active military deserve better traetment than they get. We were traeted horribly when we returned from Viet Nam. And thank you for your service to our country.

I'm not so sure you are working with a clear definition of entitlement syndrome.

The OP vented because the unexpected extra cost is frustrating. She experienced a kink in her plans. That's it. Never did the OP mention that she'll call Disney customer relations and DEMAND them to over-ride the blockout dates because they deserve to go for free. <<<< *That* would be entitlement.

I think you are probably fine. That week is spring break week right before Easter, so they are expecting big crowds. They don't really need to offer the discount during that time. :thumbsup2

I respectfully disagree with this. While I am all for the idea of allowing discounts (even substantial discounts) for basic daily services such as food, shelter, and even education, I do not think that we should be passing out free high dollar vacations.

While I put on my flame suit, let me also say that I AM incredibly grateful for the service that each member of our armed forces provides.

To the OP, I know that it must be very frustrating to find out that there are blackout dates! So sorry that happend!

Just want to say thank you to all. You are correct, I was just venting about my plans. I do not feel entitled to anything. My husband has given service to the country and I am thankful for all those others who have as well. I feel lucky to have what we do because of his service. I look for as many ways to make our vacations affordable as I can, and this is one that has been opened to us. I also spend time searching for other ways. I am not angry about Disney blacking out the dates, just sad about the change of plans and the fact that I am unable to use this great opportunity that was given to us.

Thanks for your understanding. It is appreciated!

i agree too.. but i also think that maybe they could make the fine print on those tickets a tad bigger so that this problem dose not arise again with another park guest!

Again, it is my opinion.

My Grandfather fought in WW1, my Father in WW2, I had brothers in Vietnam, the way the soldiers were treated during that period was horrible. I agree 100% with that.

I feel we live in a time where everybody feels they are entitled to special treatment. Disney is doing what they feel is appropriate for them. That's all i'm saying. To complain about it is whining.

I am a supporter of our troops. I don't care who you are, don't COMPLAIN about the generousity of others. Disney is offering a discount, it's just not on the days she wants. Oh well.

I'm guessing that the OP was probably as annoyed at herself as she was at Disney. Haven't we all done that - gotten all worked up about something and run with it....only to eventually realize that we had made a mistake and it wasn't as good as we thought? It is easy to miss the fine print.

Anyway, I'm glad you still get to go and hope you have a great time.

Wow. You do realize that most military familes dont make that much money, right? I think its great that Disney offers them discounts. A small gift for a great sacrifice. I dont consider her upset about not being able to use it the days she wants as "entitlement."
I have seen a lot of snarky people on here... Makes me glad I am mostly a lurker.
As a veteran who has friends/family currently serving, I wanted to post to voice my support. :)
