The Wave is a favorite of mine. I'm sorry to hear that it has gone downhill. I've been wanting to try breakfast there ever since I had dinner when it first opened. Back then, the only issue I had was the service was slow. Are the pics of your meals going to be posted for us to see?

:sad1:I'm also very sad about this......I've had dinner there a couple times and always thought that it was good quality and unique dishes for a good price. It saddens me to know that they are doing so much pre-prep that things are no longer fresh and tasty.
I wonder if these are the results of the free dining?

I guess it's time to find a new go-to restaurant.

I just had to say, I thought that pod cast was the funniest I've listened to in along time. I haven't have the opportunity to eat there and probably won't now. All I could think of was Kevin's report on the Restaurant at the Sea Pavillion in EPCOT & the poor sad little crab cake he had there. I am still laughing over this one. Thanks everyone for giving me a laugh, especially after the week I just put in! Diana

Loved the review. Sorry to hear about quality going down.

I kept picturing Kevin's description of the waitress "Shrek" although I agree that "Shrek" has a lot of personality.

In my mind I changed it to "Lurch" from the "Adams Family".:thumbsup2

Loved John's "Oh sweet mother of God".:rotfl2:

Just listened to Kevin's review and I have to say that our one and only time there for dinner when it first opened was not too different. We, too, had a table for two next to a pillar and found it very tight. The theming was minimal and the food not impressive, although they did carry out the "sustainable" theme at that time with the chairs and salt & pepper shakers as Kevin mentioned. It really did remind me of a "hotel restaurant" and not very Disney.

It does have a HUGE and impressive bar near the couches where you wait for your table if you opt for a drink while waiting. :drinking1

We had a *fabulous* dinner there about a year and a half ago. The steaks were delicious, the service perfect and the drinks *really* strong.

I'm sorry to hear that it's become so... beige.

I can't imagine why they would completely redo the interior so quickly after opening. Disney wasting money ?

I can't figure out what their mindset is sometimes, I thought they had a good thing going with "The Wave". Sounds now like it's more like a "ripple". And a boring one at that...

*sigh*

I loved the"Shrek" comment, I totally got what you were saying Kevin.

and I will never forget "Sweet Mother of God".........

:rotfl2:

Morale of the story never eat in a beige restaurant, unless you are UNCLE KNIT KNOT (Imagination Movers)

:sad1: Just in time for my 1st visit to my home resort .....

Us too! We are heading to WDW and BLT Oct. 5. I almost didn't list to the podcast this week, so I could save it for the plane trip. But saw on the list that Kevin was doing a review of the Wave.
After listening to that, we now have reservations at Kona instead. ;)

We ate there in August... Kevin's description of it being beige was perfect... The whole experience was... Beige... I wasn't expecting much, and it lived up to the expectations... Too bad

We have only eaten breakfast there once and I thought the review was spot on. The food wasn't terrible but it wasn't great and even though we were one of maybe three full tables in the restaurant that day our waiter forgot about us!! We waited a good 20 minutes before someone even came over to take our drink order and we had two hungry kids with us. I did not like to atmosphere at all... no color, everything was blah. When I think of earthly and organic I think of so many rich colors... the idea is wonderful but the execution was completely off. I'd fire the interior designer first.

We've just returned from a two week stay at BLT and ate at the Wave 5 times. One dinner, one lunch, and three breakfasts.

The first meal was breakfast where Richard had a waffle with berry compote and I had the Sweet Potato Pancakes with honey nut butter. The waffle was ok, and the berry sauce as well. The Sweet Potato Pancakes were the best pancakes I have ever had in my life. I let Richard try them and he agreed. I have pancakes at every breakfast out practically and there are few of the Disney restaurants we haven't had breakfast in. And one of the things Disney has stopped serving was breakfast at Boatwrights where they had really good sweet potato pancakes. These blow them away...

We had lunch- both burgers. Nothing to write home about.

We had dinner- I had the lame pork dish that Kevin had and I have to totally agree with his review. Richard had beef tenderloin and his wasn't much better.

Then we had breakfast two more times where we both had the sweet potato pancakes. Once again they were wonderful.

One other thing that was weird was the difference between the service at breakfast and lunch and dinner. We had five different waiters and the breakfast waiters were all good, one was great actually. The dinner waiter was just ok, and the lunch waitress was dire.

So please if you like a good pancake go and make everyone in your party order the sweet potato pancakes...

erm....I had just heard Kevin's review from years ago and recommended The Wave to some friends for dinner.

I listened to the current podcast the day after this dinner.

Friend's reaction to The Wave: "meh"

moral of the story....listen to the freaking podcast on time!

SWEET MOTHER OF GOD :rotfl2:

A friend of mine had dinner at the Wave this weekend, and she had enjoyed her meal. She had the sustainable fish. I think every restaurant can have a dish that just doesn't work for people, and dishes that are spot on.

I still think people should try it for themselves because this is one of the most common things I've seen on the Restaurants board. Every restaurant can have a "this is wonderful!" and "this is lousy" within the same week. The biggest issue I have is either the restaurants cannot maintain consistency, or they can't produce food that pleases everyone. That's a tall order, at any rate.

I've got a food and wine dinner event next week there, and I've heard good things about it. I'm positive they'll be going all out to impress the heck out of us, so I will still need to try the restaurant on a non-Food and Wine visit to see how they manage a regular meal for me.

We were huge Cocouse Steakhouse fans and was very disapointed in The Wave. Service was bad for dinner and slow as have ever seen in WDW. We also wondered why The Wave did not have as good of steaks as Concourse had since in same resort and probably same meat vendor. Wave had been open over 6 months when we were there and agree the decorating leaves lot to be desired BUT that has nothing to do with food quality or service.

Pete... If the prize-ma-tron ever comes back to life, John saying "Sweet mother of God." HAS to be on there as a sound bite. That and Walters "Sooktacular" comment.

I still think people should try it for themselves.

I have and when it was good, I told y'all it was good and when it wasnt good....I told y'all that too.

I have stated repeatedly that my reviews are my opinions and that everyone should try things for themselves.

If I have developed a certain level of credibility, it's probably because people did try places for themselves and found that we've been in agreement.

:) Ok , have to admit I have not listen to the podcast...but I will. We always eat breakfast at the Wave cause it is quiet, not character and they have Eggs Benedict that my DH likes. I always get the American (I think) sampler. We loved the Concourse Steakhouse....I remember the days when you could walk right up at breakfast, get a table instantly, order a nice fresh meal, get great service (once we ate their twice and waitress remembered our drink orders, Wow!), listen to the banter of little kids next door and wave your napkin around if you felt like it. Our first meal at the Wave last year was nice, breakfast, very early, we were one of two tables and thought the decor nice, but somewhat lacking in personality. We are eating there this trip on our last day, breakfast, 12/10 at 10:00 (Ok can you here the western music playing before the gunfight?), we will see how it goes...
