So proud - just wanted to share

My girlfriends and all our children are participating in The Relay For Life fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer society.

Together with our kids we had a garage sale/bake sale fundraiser. We made everything by donation only and didn't put prices on anything. We also had vendors set up tables. We charged them $15.00 for the table.

We made over $1200.00 in three hours!!!!! The kids ages 4-17 looked after everything and did a great job. (Us parents did the baking and supervising)

It's amazing what people will pay for something when they know the proceeds are going to a great cause.

That is SO awesome!!! It reinforces my belief that there are a TON of good people still out in the world!! One of my friends has a 23 month old who was just diagnosed with cancer...cancer causes are VERY close to my heart right now!!

I had a similar recent experience. My DD8 is in class with a boy who has been fighting cancer for 5 years. We had a bowling fundraiser last weekend, and my DDs begged their father to let them skip going to his house to go with me.

There were 200 bowlers, at $10pp. People also donated baked goods and Stewarts donated ice cream, event bracelets were sold, raffle prizes donated... lots of community support. In the end, they raised over $7000 for 2 local charities that Jacob (the boy with cancer) supports. I was so impressed that people came and donated $5000 that night! Everything was by donation, some people were "paying" $5 per cupcake.

It is so great to see all the people coming out with big hearts, but even better was seeing all the kids, young and older, coming out to support Jacob. That just melts my heart.
