I was perusing the boards and noted that many folks have talked about POR needing updating badly, and CBR having been updated.

Would you pick POR over CBR, and why/why not??

We have stayed at both...POR is quieter we do not have kids and are a young couple. CBR was nice but there were too many unsupervised children running around...so it depends on what you are looking for and if you have kids.

We had the same problem...deciding between the 2.
We are staying at CBR in Aug...my aunt and uncle with their 3 kiddos will be at POR.
I picked CBR b/c of the theme, I like that tropical feel. :goodvibes

Actually, if you read the postings on the board lately about rooms needing rehab - it has been for POFQ, not POR.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at POR. I stayed at CBR the first year I went down and it just wasn't for me. The next time, I stayed at POR and I haven't changed since.

My daughters and I have stayed at both CBR and POR and we very much prefer CBR. We love the themeing of CBR - the beautiful tropical colors and plants. We also like the main pool better than POR's. Both food courts are good. POR does have a great boat ride to DTD which we loved. We like the bus system better at CBR also. Good luck with your choice. Let us know what you choose.

I am biased as I have only stayed at POR and POFQ and loved them both! As PP mentioned, POR is quiet and relaxing. We had considered a stay at CBR but decided against it b/c I didn't enjoy the idea of a lake I couldn't swim in and I had thought there was a good chance the resort would be overrun with little ones. Plus, that boat ride to DTD from PO is one of my favorite things about our trips. Just didn't want to give it up. Anyway, guess i'm not much help here... :confused3

Hi there

We have stayed at both of these resorts and let me just say that you have narrowed it down to 2 awesome resorts! :goodvibes Our favorites!

We love them both. Both are very spacious, lush, and beautiful. We do give a slight edge to CBR for the larger, brighter rooms, and better pools. But like I said, they are both great and we would return to either any day!

There is a link in my signature to my review of each of them with lots of pictures of both, if you want to check them out.

Good luck!

I have stayed at both, CBR being the most recent. LOVED it. POR needs updating. The pool complex at CBR was the best. My boys were very happy spending their afternoons there, especially with the zero depth entry pool.

I think it all boils down to what theme appeals to you most. The Port Orleans resorts have a Southern/Louisiana theme to them. The Caribbean Beach Resort has a tropical/beach theme.

The rooms at the CBR were redone to have either a slight Nemo theme (no extra charge) or a full blown pirate theme (extra charge). The CBR is the only moderate resort where you can pay a little extra and be guaranteed a room near the food court, main pool, etc. Also, the rooms at the CBR are slightly larger than the other moderates.

The main pool at the CBR was redone completely and is now zero entry and has two slides and two hot tubs. There's also a separate play area for the kids and it's pirate themed too.

We've only stayed at POR and POFQ and loved both.
We stayed in POFQ 2008 (room looked great no need for updating)
POR 2007 (looked like room was just refurbished)
Reasons we loved them:

POR--best food court (lots of freshly made choices--neat theme)
Loved the Main PooL (there are also several quiet pools) several laundry rooms, Boat ride to DTD, Lush Old South (think Gone with the Wind) Landscaping, Cute Critters (bunnies, ducks, turtles, water birds most with babies),
So relaxing after a long day at the parks, very family friendly, quiet,
Mansions (have manicured gardens, fountains, gazebos, wroughtiron railings) AB section (feel like Splash mountain theme)

POFQ--smaller resort, liked the room decore, easy to get around, Boat ride to DTD, Great Main pool (great for younger kids--and very large for everyone to swim), hidden hot tub (in a cute hedgelined courtyard), water fountains, courtyards, charming, wroughtiron railings.

I grew up in Louisiana and think POR and POFQ are wonderful!!!

I think the fact that I am FROM Louisiana is what originally turned me off about POR. However, I'm traveling with 3 teens (well, 20, 17 and 14), and I'm sure it would be nice to have a laid back atmosphere.

The thing is, I switched to POR from POP because I really wanted to try a moderate (been in Poly but it's been years - we have done ASMu the last few times we've been); the fact that it's Louisiana-style certainly does not have any extra appeal.

I like the idea that CBR's rooms are bigger, but I also like that we have the ability to sleep a 5th person (I requested Alligator Bayou), just in case 18yodd winds up getting to come with us (she is supposed to be in Hawaii, but you never know).

With that in mind, I think I'm going to stick with POR. I'm a little nervous about the buses and stops within the resort, but I'm hoping that it just won't be crowded when we're there so it won't be an issue...

Stayed six days at CBR in 2008 and it was awesome! Quiet, plush... upgraded to water view and it was just beautiful. A great place for a restful getaway. Be certain you get a room far enough from the pool and you will be good to go.!:thumbsup2

HOWEVER ... Stayed seven days at Port Orleans Riverside four months ago and it was beyond anything I dared hope for. It was so rustic and full of Southern charm and theming I was blown away. I didn't even upgrade because the view of the courtyard was just so beautifully peaceful it was paradise. Take this down. Room 1458 in Alligator Bayou. It's a fantastic room with perfect placement. Out the front door you are about 100 steps (not yards) away from the main building for refills and food; and out the back door you are about 100 yards away from another bus stop, so you have a second chance if you miss the first bus out front.

Every morning new towel animals for the kids and immaculate rooms when you come home. I can't say enough good things about the resort, honestly. You will not be sorry you went.

Alligator Bayou, Building 14. Book it!
