So - our 16 YO nieghbor blew off a stop sign today

in our neighborhood.

No need to tell his parents...HIS MOM WAS IN THE CAR!!!

If he is blowing off stop signs while his mom was in the car...kind of makes me wonder what he will be doing when he is not with his mom.

Scary...very scary...

When I was in college there was a stop sign nearby that everyone blew through. You could see in all directions and it was so rural people just did. Once I was with my friends and she ran it. Of course there was a bit of a dip and it was night and in that dip was a car that we never saw until we hit them head on. I will NEVER EVER run a stop sign because of that. No one was seriously hurt but their were minor injuries and both cars were totaled.

I work as a school crossing guard. People go through stop signs all the time.
Then they look at me like I have horns growing out of my head when I yell at them about the stop.

People double park causing other cars to "fly" around them. Everyone is so impatient.

Like a pp mentioned.... it is done until there is an accident.

If this is a common problem at this particular stop sign, you might ask the local law enforcement to put a watch on it. A few tickets might discourage the practice.

Just call the cops enough and they will have someone sit near the stop sign. That will stop the brat for little while.

I don't understand people who think it's okay to blow a stop sign. Are you THAT important that the rule doesn't apply to you??? Are you in that much of a rush??? Is it some urgent matter???

I had some imbecile blow a stop sign and broadside me a few years ago. She had the audacity to say I was coming down the block too fast (which was impossible since I had a stop sign on the previous corner). She simply blew the stop sign, hit me, and refused to admit she never stopped.


I don't know if this 16 year old has a full license, junior license or learner's permit but I hope he gets stopped and ticketed. It's evident his mommy thinks it's OK for him to do this since the kid is still driving around.

If I were in the car with my child who ran a stop sign...their license would be mine for a few weeks and I would not drive them anywhere!!!

I feel bad for my kids - b/c they are only 6 & 8 and I can already tell that I will be the mean mom

We live on a dead end street with a cul-de-sac and all of the kids play in our street. A teenager around the corner on the connecting street started speeding down our street and skidding and burning rubber around the turn in the cul-de-sac. We talked to him the first time. The second time we talked to his parents. The third time, my neighbor called the police. The police went to his house and issued him a citation. My neighbor who witnessed it (the rest of us just heard the tires squeeling and went running to make sure our kids were okay) went to his hearing to testify and he was given a hefty ticket and fine. I haven't seen him in over two years driving on our street. If this same kid keeps offending do the same thing!

The bus stop is at the end of our street and people constantly blow through it while our kids are standing there! My neighbors and I started yelling at the people "SLOW DOWN" or "THAT'S A STOP SIGN!". This actually helped some and they were really embarassed. People get into such a habit about this that they don't even think about the fact that they should stop.

Wow. If I saw my neighbors kid go thru a stop sign I think I'd remember back to when I was learning to drive and assume it was just an accident.

But, I guess that's not the way it works here on the "DIS".

Did everyone here drive perfectly from the day they got their permits?????

On these boards if someone doesn't do everything the way you like then they of course must be evil.

I agree and was thinking the same thing. Didn't you ever make a mistake? I drove thru a stop sign the other day. It was on a residential street, I was going slow, had been thru at least 8 intersections on this same street that didn't have stop signs and honestly didn't see it. I always look both ways when I am going thru an intersection whether I have the stop or not so I know no other cars were coming.

I don't know about the hanging but maybe pitchforks and torches?

Many, many, many moons ago when I was learning to drive, I did that with Mom in the car. I just missed seeing it.

She didn't notice it at first until I was just going by it and it was too late to stop without slamming on the breaks. She sure let me have it.

So maybe his Mom did the same thing.

Oh and I should add, my neighbors son was notorious for backing into garbage cans on garbage day. He always said he couldn't see them when he was leaving in the dark. After one too many scratches on her car, his Mom took away his license for 2 months and suddenly he was much better about watching what he was doing when he backed up.

running a stop sign, or a red light for that matter, can be deadly. An experience my family and I have had first had. It is a serious matter and it should be addressed. A mistake, certainly, but they must understand the seriousness of it.

OP never said anything about hanging or any other type of punishment. She simply expressed a very real concern. I happen to agree with her concern. I hope I (or the other 1200 people) never have to go to another funeral for an 18 year old killed in a car accident.
