So nice to have a mother who cares. (UPDATE post 40)

WOW! Hope your thing turns out ok!

But Dad won't get his license renewed if he can't pass the eye test next time right? Check and see when it expires...

There are no exams -- license renewal is automatic in Pennsylvania.

You can probably thank AARP for those kinds of laws.

I disagree - I have the same type of mom. The difference is I don't live anywhere near her. I have not been "allowing it" for over 20 years now, but she still behaves this way. Why? Because she thinks she's right.

!

Absolutely. Abusive people don't change just because you refuse to put up with their abuse. That's a sweet but naive fantasy! They are sure they are right so they keep at it.

But it DOESN'T mean we have to tolerate the behavior. It is worthwhile to set limits. In my case, I told my mother I would not listen to one more word of criticism. I haven't heard from her since, not a big surprise, since that's all that rolls out of her mouth. :sad2:

Marseeya, I'm sorry to hear your mother is so impossible.

Just wanted to update:

I went to the doctor today. I really hate those big OB/GYN offices where you'll never see the same doctor twice. I wish I could find one single doctor. Anyway, he took me off the pill. They wanted to do an endometrial biopsy today, but they didn't have any better reason than my age (39), so I asked if we could hold off on it. The thing is, I have to pay for those things out of pocket, so I'd rather not do it just based on my age. So, they agreed and said if my period doesn't stop in the next week/week 1/2, then I'll go in and have it done.

.

Is there any way you can get yourself covered by health insurance so you can get this stuff done? It really sucks that you have to put the dollar before your health.

A lot of organizations, like the Association For Computing Machinery, let you buy health insurance from them if you are a member.

Having gone through the misery of endometriosis and had successful surgery, I urge you not to put this stuff off, if at all possible!

Is your dad allowed to drive after an eye appointment? Sometimes they have to use drops to dilate your pupils and you can't focus very well for awhile.

We have insurance, but we also have a pretty high deductible. Mine hasn't even been touched yet.

I've been off the pill for over 24 hours now and I'm already feeling different. I don't know if it's psychological or what, but today I haven't been irritable or irrational (I was getting pretty bad there!), and I lost 5 pounds in water weight alone since YESTERDAY! Of course, I was in the bathroom every hour losing the water, but hey, it's gone. Can the pill really get out of your system that quickly?
