So my dh takes two of our kids to Six Flags today..he texts me

I'm going to chirp in here to say in my opinion, Six Flags is not a theme park. Amusement park? Yes. Nothing theme-y about it.

I think the huge difference that stood out to me was the cleanliness of WDW compared to our SF, and the customer service.

I just asked dh that and he said it was nothing like Disney as far as cleanliness/customer service goes. Although I have to say that years and years ago.....I was always blown away by how clean Disney was... but even that has slipped in my opinion. I know back in the early to mid 90's we had gone to Busch Gardens in VA and Sea World in FL and we had been to Disney several times......we noticed a huge difference in how much cleaner Disney was. I remember thinking no other parks compares do Disney in that dept.

jblrn2b: Yep, Knott's is still there, but it has changed quite a bit over the last 10 years now that Cedar Fair owns it.

Ohio: you're either thinking of Cedar Point (most likely), or maybe Kings Island. Both are also Cedar Fair parks.

Thanks. I think its Cedar point I saw on the Travel Channel?

Probably so.

Cedar Point is a pretty interesting place. As an amusement park, it is top-notch. They have more roller coasters (17) and rides (75) than any other single-site park. (Morey's Piers might have more in total.) The park is kept quite clean, and customer service is better than average for an amusement park. Operationally, the park is excellent---they move a lot of people through the queues, and operate at very high capacity. The park also has a stunning location; the amusement park and water park, plus the hotel and campground, completely occupy much of a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie. If you are a boater, there is an on-Point marina that offers transient dockage.

On the other hand, food service is below average, especially at window-service locations. Some of the sit-down places are okay, but nothing approaching what you'd expect from even a Busch, let alone a Disney. Likewise, the resorts side of the business is below average at best. The resorts are completely full in season, and so they've had little incentive to improve in this area---and, in my opinion, they haven't. We still spend a few nights on-Point each season, but begrudgingly. The best on-Point options are the cabins and cottages in the campground area, and the "new" Breakers rooms. Unfortunately, the off-Point options are generally horrible---think old-style motels as far as the eye can see.

We're considering restricting ourselves to day trips next year.

Las time me and Dan went to Cedar Point we lasted 3 hrs. and I said that it was a DUMP compared to any Disney Park --and we haven't been back!!
What a waste of money - I think it was about $30 to get in. Disney's park prices are good money and valu for what you get!!

How funny!! LOL

We use to get season passes for Great America every year...until my first visit to WDL and WDW. LOL In July 2005 we went to WDL for my birthday (dh, dd, ds, and I) then in Oct 2005 dh and I went to WDW for our anniversary, that same year we took the kids to Great America for Fright Fest, and omg was I spoiled from WDW.......we haven't been back. LOL I have 5 trips planned for 2009 and I can't wait!!

Well, that's why Baskin-Robins has 31 flavors.

I'm an equal opportunity fun-seeker, I guess. Hopefully they won't revoke my mouse ears for daring to set foot in a non-Disney amusement park....

I grew up going to Disney once a year and Great America (now SF) in north Chicago. I don't think it was that bad back then but a recent trip to a SF park was shocking. We expected the lines but when you are one of 50 people waiting to buy a hot dog and soda, there are four employees behind the counter and one of them is working but the other four are doing nothing but joke around with each other and use their cell phones it is pretty disheartening. We wanted our money back. I love roller coasters so I would go just to enjoy those even without the charm but I couldn't stand the place.

My 13 yr old DD has had 11 disney trips so far, with more to come. And WDW is her favorite place to be. But she enjoys going to amusement parks also. She is smart enough to know there is no comparison with WDW and to just enjoy what the park has to offer. Plus shes a pretty happy girl and has fun wherever she is.

I live in the same town as a Six Flags park (I even used to work there many, many years ago). I have not been to it in 5 years, and my kids have not been there in about 3. We all have been to Disney 6 times in that time frame. They don't like it at Six Flags and would rather go to Disney.

I have never set foot in the Six Flags in MD, and have no intention of doing so. DH has been once and warned me not to go. He knows I would not do well with the seedier element that hangs out here, nor how dirty it is, and I would scream bloody murder over the prices. He came back from his visit informing me how wonderful WDW was and how reasonable the prices for what you get. The fact that 6 years later the nicest thing my ever optimist DH can say is "Well, Batwing was pretty cool," says a lot.

Hi neighbor...I live VERY CLOSE to Crofton. I have not been to Six Flags but dh and two older kids have. I won't let them go without him. It is pretty seedy. There are always about 10 PG County cops waiting in the parking lot when the park closes. :scared1:

Hahahaha! We saw this at our Six Flags and DH and I looked at each other like, For real? We laughed every time we walked by it.

they think we should get FPs everywhere we go though! :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: We compare everything, absolutely everything to Disney. Last week at the grocery store my kids DS11, DD9, thought the lines were too long, so they thought we needed a fast pass!!!:lmao:

We live fairly close to Six Flags but after our last trip about 5 years ago I refuse to go back. Everybody was so rude and grouchy.

Any more opinions about Hershey Park? I've never been.
