and he has no valid insurance or registration. Now we are in NJ - the land of insurance. Driving without insurance in NJ is pretty much a death sentence. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't the second time this has happened to him in less than a year!

Now he knew he didn't have insurance. He didn't pay his bill and when we called to pay it over the phone the company told him that his insurance had already lapsed. The insurance company already reported to the NJ DMV that he has no insurance so then his registration gets revoked.

So this morning he is driving past a local school (were the town cops always sit and watch the cars go by) and the cop runs his plate # and pulls him over. Car gets impounded and co-worker is escorted to work (an hour later) by said cop.

Now he is at DMV trying to get his car reregistered so he can get reinsured. :confused3 He has a court date in a month. Last time he got off with nothing, no fine, nothing. I wonder what is going to happen this time? I looked up the fines online, it looks pretty bad.

Thats his own dumb fault. He knew it lapsed.

I got pulled over the other for not having my headlights on during the rain--(dumb excuse, but I digress!) Anyway, I had my registration and my new insurance card in my glovebox. It wasn't even the start date of the insurance --the cut off date was the 1/15 and I got pulled over the 12th...but the cop let me go.

Your coworker should have known that an insurance lapse will get reported to the DMV. They will find you and revoke your license if you are caught without insurance.

When we got our Ohio drivers license, we had no problems about turning in plates and having insurance terminated from our prior residence in NJ. When we moved from Ohio to PA, we ran into a problem. Apparently, the NJ DMV never recorded the fact that we returned the plates to them and the insurance revocation was still on our record after not having a residence in NJ for over 7 years. Technically the PA DMV was not allowed to give us a PA license due to revocation in a neighboring state.

So my DH had a chat with NJ DMV, Ohio DMV, and PA DMV to get this all straightened out. We weren't fined and we got a PA and NJ licenses fine after a chat and a few emails/faxes. We saved the copy of the plate return and that was proof that we moved away.

NJ DMV rules are tricky--but you do need insurance and registration. Otherwise you are out of luck. I got hit by someone who didn't have license, insurance and registration back in PA. That person went to jail and I think deported! (he was an illegal immigrant).

Whatever the fine is, he's just going to have to cough it up.. It's not like he didn't know he was breaking the law..

He's going to pay a bundle for his new insurance! Unknowingly, I was $70 short on paying our car insurance, and 31 days later, my lovely agent called and told me that after 30 days, the policy lapses, so my rates tripled! No other insurance companies will insure you, because your policy lapsed. What a nightmare.

he is, as they SOL and will be paying through the nose for quite some time.

At least he didn't get ARRESTED like my stupid co-worker....:rotfl2:

Not only did she NOT have insurance, she was driving on a SUSPENDED LICENSE... and SWEARS she didn't know!:confused3

Car impounded, two kids crying and this dummy gets taken away in cuffs after doing 40 in a 35 mph school zone...

Just ONE of many BAD choices this person has made in the short time I worked with her. She was fired by my job then showed up at another radio station in a great position. Last I heard she was escorted out of the place by security....:rolleyes1

:rotfl: Ok, he isn't that bad. But this is the second time this has happened to him. It's just so irresponsible. And he just recently took a mensa test (you know, that society of supposed genius people) - he didn't get in.

I got "pulled over" yesterday! Well "pulled over" is in quotes because I pulled into my parking spot at my apartment building and jumped out of the car and there was the police woman standing there with an unmarked car with flashing lights behind her. Startled the crap out of me and I panicked of course (I had driven total of 2 miles and was late for a meeting).

PO:"license, registration and please get back into your car"
Me:"excuse me ma'am but what did I do?
PO:"get in the car and i will tell you" :scared1:
I started to panic more and I grabbed my wallet and handed her the documents in addition to my fire department Id (dude, no clue what law I broke, might as well get her on my side fast!). So I sat down in the backseat after a minute.
PO:"I saw you cross over Y street on Z street"
(insert puzzled look here)
Me:"but I didn't, I made the left onto Z street (I live on z street)"
PO:"I was coming over the hill and thought I saw you cross Y street"
Me:"ummmm well you must be mistaken because I definitely was coming from 26, made a right onto Y street and a left onto z street, you can call the place where I just was to double check if you feel the need"
PO:"Well I'm not sure so I'll let you go but next time come to a complete stop at the stop sign too. You stopped enough for me not to write you a ticket this time but you are lucky"

I was sooooooo rattled and every piece of me wanted to call the police station and complain but I kept my mouth shut!

my secretary is a member of MENSA and proud of it. i think whoever let her in had the bell curve upside down.

The guy gambled and lost. So now it's time to pay up. I can't muster up any sympathy for him - he's the reason OUR insurance rates are so high!

As a former prosecutor, they usually make the punishment MUCH more harsh for a second offense of driving without insurance. But I don't know if that's the practice where you live.

I was going to ask you if it was my husbands step-brother, but when you mentioned the mensa test, I figured it couldn't be him because he woudn't even know what mensa is in order to take the test in the first place.

But this guy is an idiot. Last week I emailed MIL to let her know that we had cancelled our home phone so they should call us on our cell phones now. She replied back with: "thanks for telling me. At least you guys tell us things. I called L at work yesterday only to find out that he no longer works there." Typical. The guy has had at least 6 jobs in the 4 years that hubby and I have been together, and I might be a bit low on that number.

What is it about some of these cops??? This woman obviously had too much time on her hands and was riding some kind of power trip to have followed you into your apt complex when she wasn't even sure just what you did. :confused3

Pathetic.

He's lucky he's not in JAIL.... they are quite serious in NJ about that sort of thing :( Glad I'm not him!

No sympathy, what an idiot. It's bad enough he drove knowingly without insurance. But twice in the same year? Thank God he didn't get in an accident.

This is just what I was thinking! Think how much more he would be paying if he got into an accident.

Good! I'm glad he got caught. It always amazes me what do these people think we (who always pay) LIKE paying these ridiculous rates for insurance. Believe me I would much rather be going to Disney with my money, I could even stay at the Poly if I didn't have to pay that bill!
