We just returned from SSR & I thought the entire family loved our stay there. I'm already planning another trip for next summer & wanted to stay at SSR again. I've been ruled out. DH & kids want to stay at BWV. I'm completely flexible all summer. Should I start calling MS 7 months out for End of June & July and if it's not available keep calling back until a week is available? or is mid-august usually OK. TIA

I can't help you with your booking question, but...

It's only natural to want to try different resorts, so I can understand why your family wants to try BWV instead of staying at SSR again. I only joined DVC last year and by the end of this year I'll have stayed at all the DVC resorts at WDW (although I won't have stayed in all the different room types). That gives you an idea of what you like and what you don't like for future reference.

You can do two things......book at SSR at the 11 month window with plans to switch to BWV at the 7 month window and then call MS at the 7 month window to make the switch based on availability Or simply wait until the 7 month window and call to book at BWV. With either option, if there is no availability at BWV you can waitlist for your choice and MS will call you if your accomodations become available. One thing to keep in mind, however,
if you use Option #2 and wait too long you might be taking the chance that you then won't have availability at your second choice either. I usually book at one of my home resorts even if I plan to switch at 7 months thereby assuring we have at least our second choice. You will remain on the waitlist until a few weeks before your trip (not sure of the exact time frame, but, it is listed on the member website). So, you could get a call almost right up until your trip telling you the waitlist came through.

Summer is NOT a high demand month for DVC resorts.

Now sometimes it might be a problem - but hey you say you would be happy anytime in the summer even up to mid August...

So I am pretty sure you will find something.

most timeshare are families only - DVC is families, singles, couples - you name it.... so the high demand times for DVC is generally in the colder weather - Dec, Nov, Oct - all hard to get - especially for an Epcot resort.

just remember to call at the 7 month time - although I do agree make a reservation at your home resort at the 11 month. You never know when something will come up and you might not be able to call or even think of it until it is almost time to go. So have the back up reservations just in case you need it.

did you tell your kids how much more the BWV will cost you... I would never count on a standard view when it is not your home resort.

Thank you for the replies. I feel better now. BWV was available to purchase but DH sortof convinced me to buy SSR. We will be traveling in the summer months until the kids are out of school so I'm glad it's not a popular time.

Spiceycat: the point difference is only 15 points between SSR & BWV preferred 2 brm for 5 nights. I'm going to try to pay cash for the weekend if it's available or stay at Polynesian.

It might be fun for the kids to request a Boardwalk View which is it's own room category.

I haven't ventured far from my resorts of BCV & BWVs, but during my next trip, I'll be able to experience the OKW. Can't wait!

I agree that summer is not high demand for DVC. I called in early May to book a 2 bedroom and all of the DVC resorts had some sort of available. SSR/OKW/BWV had dates open for my whole stay and I was looking to stay in early to mid August. So with only 3 months out, I had my choice of where to stay.

I have another question:

When you book BWV preferred view do you know immediately whether you have boardwalk view?

Yes, when you book, you will know whether ornot it is a Baordwalk view. I do not know if you can wait list Boardwalk view if you do not get it though. I bet that someone herewill know though.



I sure would waitlist Baordwalk view if I knew that I was getting Preferred view.

My thoughts were if the BW view is not available & the small chance that the standard is I may do standard. I can't see using the extra points for a preferred view & not be on the boardwalk. Am I missing something?

BTW: I plan on booking whatever they have but I'm trying to figure out all my options ahead of time.

You can waitlist for Boardwalk View, or request it at the time of booking. If you want BW view, then you should request it at the time of booking. I've done it. I'm going to be staying BWV PV for the pool view this time, and will change rooms to Std view to save some points too.

A Boardwalk View costs the same points as a Preferred View, but you have to ask for it when you make reservations because it actually is its own category even though it isn't listed on the point charts.

If that is what you want, ask for it - I hope that it comes through for you.

If you want a Standard View at BWV you need to call at the 7 month window. I wanted two standard view studios for last week, but at 7 months out when I called I could only get one standard view and had to get one preferred view (there were no Boardwalk views available then either).

I didn't waitlist, so it is possible something might have come through. But at the time I called preferred views were all that were available for our dates.

Well in a perfect world I would want BW view so I'll request it at 7 months and if it's not available I'll ask for standard. If that's taken too I'll try for any preferred view. I really just want to get the reservation so I'm going to take anything that's available.

I can't help shaking my head. I just said aloud a few minutes ago"I should have bought at BWV".
