I got so nervous listening to reports about the price hikes that were due 5/1 for most of the airlines, that I panicked and bought my tickets 4/30 at 11:30 pm. I paid $254.70 r/t with 1 change of planes each way 8/16-23 from alb.
So where are the increases??? I knew it would happen. Then again, knowing my luck, if I waited, prices would have jumped!
At least it's over and done with, now I can obsess about the adr's I've made and re-arrange them a thousand times, lol. :rotfl:

Well, if it's any consolation, the fare for my September/October JetBlue flights went up $20 each way.

I did read somewhere that while the cost of fuel for the airlines would naturally be rising, they have advance contracts - so even if the new contracts are at a (much) higher rate, it shouldn't affect fares until December.

I doubt anyone thought that there were price increases planned for any specific day. I think the reports, rather, were prognosticating about fares increasing starting in May, not on May 1 specifically and only.

I just checked our flight to see if there was an increase, and boy oh boy was there! We have roundtrip from Chicago to MCO for 168.00, taxes fees and all :thumbsup2 .
Now, the flight down is 260.00 and the flight back is 180.00. I am SOOOOOOOO glad we got ours last month! For a family of six this is a HUGE savings!

We are flying United in October from Dulles, VA to Orlando. The price jumped from $187 including taxes and fees to $197 since we bought them in March.

I had hoped to wait on Southwest to release their October fares but everything we read said the fares were only going to increase over the summer and we didn't want to take a chance plus my DH hates the boarding corrals of SW.

Funny thing is, I recently found ticket stubs from 1990 when we flew Eastern Airlines to Orlando (right before it went under) from Reagan Airport in DC and we paid over $200 a ticket back then! We have paid well over $225 a ticket sometimes to fly down, never lucking into the really cheap deals of $59 one way so I guess $187 is a pretty decent price after all. ;)

That's a great point, klmall. Just think about how much everything has gone up in price over the last 16 years, yet airline travel has decreased in price. Even with the advances made by low-fare carriers, there is still something wrong with that. The only things that have trended in that direction is technology, yet many airlines are still flying jets that are that old! :lmao:

And jsut to show you that prices change, I bought some tickets last night which dropped $300 per ticket from the previous week - I am pretty good at anticipating fare changes since I travel so much, and I knew that the $800 fare was going to drop at some point.

I am amzed at how many here balk at paying $200 when $200/roundtrip flights from the West Coast to East Coast have been available for ten years ie zero percent increase.

Does anyone remember how much admission to WDW was in 1990? or how much room rates were at WDW back then?

Air Tran's prices have gone up pretty sharply since the last week in April from all 3 of the Wash, DC airports and also Richmond (We live about 1 hour from all of those DC/Richmond airports). About the 2nd week in April I could have had 4 tickets round trip to MCo from either Richmond (which is usally more expensive) of Dulles for $669 R/T (that includes taxes) the base fare was $79 down and like $54 back each. But DH insisted we drive becasue it would still be cheaper. Those prices have gone up to anywhere from $90 to some even being $169 or more each way.

Edited to add: That's flying June 24-July 5th
