I haven't been on the Dis-boards long, and I'm not really sure what everyone wants in a pre-trip (or even a post-trip) report.....But here goes...From what I've read, the most important thing is that it's from the heart and factual....

It's only early September and we don't go until next June 2008. It's the day after my birthday and I'm thrilled that I'ved talked DH into going back (it will be three years when we return next June). Before that it was 14 years since we'd been to Disney on our honeymoon for a long weekend.

I'm a Disney Princess Wanna-Be...In early elementary we lived in central Florida; then Dad was transferred in the Coast Guard to the Great Lakes so we moved to small-town Missouri through high school graduation. Mom became sick with a familial neurological disorder when I was in middle school. We did take a trip while I was in high school where we brought my best friend, Beth, to the World. We spent a day at MK and Epcot. We also had a night at Daytona. That was a fun memory for me; Mom was NOT a drinker at ALL!!! After we checked into our inexpensive (yes, it's true -- in the '80's it was!!) beachfront hotel, Mom and Dad decided to go to the lounge for a beverage...a few hours later, my BF Beth and I are taking Mom's shoes off as she giggles hysterically because she enjoyed ONE strawberry daiquiri and was so LOOPY!!!! Giggles abounded and Beth and I enjoyed it as much as my dad and mom did!!!!!!

Anyway, it was a quick WDW trip. When I met my husband, Steve, in 1991, my mom had just passed away from the disease. He and I hit it off right away and were married within 3 months. (Scared lots of family -- oddly, not any on my side of the family!! We're all about live for the moment and don't waste time!!!) Anyway -- Steve proposed to me on a Thursday or Friday evening after I'd confessed that without a real teaching job (I just couldn't sub -- needed the health benefits), I would have to move back to my dad's in central Missouri. Poor guy, when he proposed, I thought he was just feeling sorry for me, so I immediately said, no, until I realized I crushed him with those words...A week later, we were wed in a church wedding with a small group of family and friends. I have to say that the honeymoon (a long weekend at Disney - off-site) was planned before I had a church or pastor!!!!!!! (I did run into the pastor who married us last year -- I was proud to share with him that we are still very much in love and are so grateful to him for giving us a chance...)

Sooo..........we told ourselves after this very fast honeymoon (one day at MK and one day at Epcot) that we would go back in five years...Five years came and went with bills and expenses. Then we said 10 years...same thing. Finally, I told Steve that I HAD to go BACK!!!!!! Seth (DS) was going to be 8 when I was hoping to go. We finally just made the leap and scheduled a 10 day trip to FL. We stayed at POP and did a few sidetrips ***(Daytona to space Coast in one day!!!! ***-- yikes!!, Sea World, and Universal one day). That was in 2005. I've been patient and yes, we've done other things (San Antonio last July for our anniversary and Durango area for Colorado camping and fun this year). HOWEVER, It's time for Disney again!!!!!!!!

We're now planning our June 2008 trip; or rather, I should say, I am, and DH is going with what I'm telling him....

He really is a great guy. I do wish he had more of the magic feeling inside of him, but he lets me take over with it & will surprise me with unexpected magical moments!!!!!!

So far my plans are...

I have purchased 7 day Park Hopper passes.

I'm still wavering on the flights!!!!!!! I can't commit, yet!! I'm afraid of missing a good deal!!!! We will stay at POP; just haven't confirmed, yet.

More soon!

Susan:woohoo:

***Typo - We did not go Orlando to Daytona to Space Coast on a daytrip (that wouldn't be bad...). Instead we got up early (as usual), had breakfast and headed to Tampa and Clearwater Beach to catch some sun. We stayed there for about an hour or so then hopped back in the car to the opposite coast! We did a quick tour of Cape Kennedy and had dinner at a fun beach bar/grill in Cocoa Beach. Got back to POP late!!! It was tremendous fun!!!!

I'm along for the ride.:) Have you decided when in June? We went this past year mid-June. I hear the later you go in June the busier it gets. Crowds really weren't that bad when we were there....:woohoo:

jordanyosh --

Thank you for subscribing!!!! :cool1:

We're hoping to go early June (June 7th though 17th possibly). When we went in 2005, we were there from June 20th through 30th. We noticed a DEFINITE increase in tourists as our vacation went on.

Are you planning a trip soon? :hippie:

Oh, how excited can one girl get?!!!?

I've been torturing myself with flight reservations everyday with all the big booking agencies. FINALLY after missing a few pretty good deals out of Des Moines, DH and I agreed it was time to just go for it!!!! I think shopping for flights can be so stressful...you get a decent deal, but you think, "hmmm...what if it's not the RIGHT deal for us???" By the time I've given myself permission to purchase it, the price has gone up for the flight time I've coveted!

We decided not to fly out of D.M. this time. WAY too pricey for the times offered. The thought of having to connect in Chicago or Dallas sends DH and I into uncontrollable shudders of fear (we had a bad experience -- not necessary to explain, but we don't like heading in those directions if we can help it!). I got a good fare out of KC (2 hours away for us) on a nonstop flight on Midwest!!!!!!! I've heard great things about Midwest from friends/family who have flown with them & Nonstop...wow...just doesn't happen in D.M.!!!!

Since we're booked for our flights, I called WDW to reserve for POP & paid my deposit. I talked to such a nice CM :goodvibes . (I've never had a bad experience, though. :) ).

Here are the plans so far...

***Saturday, June 7th - Leave D.M. around noon or so for KC. NS Midwest flight leaves at 3:55 and arrives in Orlando at 7:30. Pick up rental car and head to POP. Check-in and grab some dinner at Everything POP. Maybe swim or just wander around...

***Sunday, June 8th - Take it easy day (maybe...). Dinner at Chef Mickey's.

***Monday, June 9th - Monday, June 16th - we'll have 8 days with 7 PHs. We're thinking a daytrip to Kennedy again with a beach visit/dinner in Cocoa Beach would be a nice break in the middle.

***Tuesday, June 17th - Our flight doesn't leave until 8:05 p.m., so we'll have until 5:00 or so to play around. Maybe Sea World...Universal...or Water Park??? (Don't really want to mess with wet suits on the plane, though). We'll arrive in KC at 9:50 & head home that night unless we wimp out and grab a cheap hotel.

That's it so far, but I'm THRILLED!!!!!!!! It's really gonna happen!!!!!!! :cloud9:

Nothing new with any plans...other than I did reserve our hotel at POP for all the dates. We thought about taking a few days for the coast, but decided a day trip would really be easier for us. I requested the 50's this time. Last time we stayed we did the 70's. It was fine; I would happily stay there again, but DH and DS wondered what else there might be...

Sometimes I just lay in bed when I can't sleep and walk through our vacation...amazingly enough it doesn't keep me awake...I'm sure that will change the sooner we get to our trip...right now it's a way to "dreamsville!"

Of course it's WAAAY too early for ADRs. I'm hoping Pirate and Princess happens in June, but I haven't checked into it enough to know. Seth was a pirate for Halloween 2 years ago with a big costume that should still fit. I think it would be a HOOT to dress as a pirate wench...!!!!! No princess frillies for me! Pink is NOT my color...give me vivacious RED anyday!!

I am thinking of a few places to eat...

Le Cellier (never been there, hearing great things...)
Chef Mickey's (of course, for our first evening character dinner)

Considering:

Sci Fi Diner (haven't done that, yet)
Mama Melrose's...

We also want to visit the Adventurer's Club (with Seth - sounds family friendly). That'll be the extent of our "clubbing!!"

Any advice for restaurants would be most welcome!

Sci-Fi Diner-GREAT atmosphere, average food that's expensive.

Great restaurants:

Jiko
California Grill
Flying Fish Cafe

Really good restaurants:

Le Cellier
Chefs de France
Brown Derby

Good Restaurants:

Prime Time Cafe
Spoodles
Teppanyaki Dining

I would eat at all these anytime, anywhere.

Average restaurants including Counter Service:

Sci-Fi Diner
Tony's Town Square
Peco's Bill
Liberty Inn

I would only not eat at Pecos Bill again. I have eaten there 2x and haven't enjoyed the food either time.

All of these are just my opinion.

Thanks, jordanyosh, for your input! I can't remember if we did Pecos Bills. I think we did for CS -- I remember it not being overwhelmingly wonderful or bad, but just CS...???

Chefs de France -- do you think an 11-year old boy would find something he likes? (This child LOVES steaks). Are good steaks on the menu??? Tony's was actually really fun for us when we were there in 2005. We ended up sitting by a window in air conditioning during the afternoon parade (total surprise!) and had a good meal to go with!!!

Thanks for replying! I've not been very good at checking in at the disboards...I think I'm missing out on your reports! You have so many fun photos and stories!! :rotfl:

Can you help me??? How do I add a link to this in my siggie? (I'm hopeless with anything technogical...)

Are things evening out for you? You've had some losses and sadnesses...thank for sharing...hope it's getting better.

Susan

I can't remember how I did the pre trip sig. I had to do a search and then figure out how to do it. Sorry, not a computer whiz at all....

Gasp!

And I thought you were the king with pictures and everything!!

Ah, well, I shall venture into the deep search-beyond...wish me luck...:upsidedow

Sounds like a fun trip so far. We are going June 14-22nd I have even begun to plan day's ect... I have to many other people to plan for.

I will say, we loved Sci-Fi when we went, it gets trashed a lot on here, but its fun and sort of campy, just plan DISNEY!

I think Sci-Fi sounds so fun! I can't believe we missed it the first time. Where are you staying when you go in June? How many people are you planning to go with you?

Thanks for stopping by!

Susan

I am planning our trip for 10. My family of 5, my MIL and FIL and then Dh's brother, SIL and their dd.

We are staying at Shades of Green. This is our first vacay with the whole group so it should be interesting to say the least! LOL

I am starting to get majorly obsessive with planning this trip, but that is what makes it fun, right?????

meriann-

Sounds like you are planning a really fun trip! We'll be there for part of the same time period...we'll have to see what transpries!!! I'll check out your pretrippie...

Susan

:hippie: It's still so early and I don't expect many people to be interested in a pre-trippie so soon. I don't really have anything new or special to add. Wow - am I an advocate for my report, or what??!!

It's funny -- I'm soooooo excited to come to Disney, but the lull of real life has begun to overtake my excitement right now. :upsidedow I am completely and totally thrilled to go back next June, but I have to admit that my school life is my center right now. ...I take that back...my family is my center, Steve (DH), Seth (DS), and Lucy (DP -- Disney Puppy -- BIG Puppy)...School, however, is a HUGE deal in my life. With NCLB these days I'm feeling really pressured to get these kids "on grade level" when they're handed to me not there...I love my class this year (and honestly all years -- ummm, last year, not as much, but I was handed the class of all below-level readers -- and I did love my students; I did not love the pressure that was presented to myself and my students). :confused3

Anywhooo...I am loving my class this year. They're a little talkative, but overall are very kind. THAT'S my idea of success. You can do so much in life by being kind...ok, I won't get on my soapbox....:teacher:

I guess my whole thought is......I've been soooooooo excited about Disney next June and now I'm starting to feel guilty about my little ones who will NEVER get to visit Disney (of course I don't say anything to them about my trip...). It makes me sad when I read about people debating whether they should stay at a deluxe resort or somewhere else...I'm really not trying to judge...sorry if it seems that way...I just already feel guilty that I go on a nice vacation every year (Disney or otherwise) and I work with many families who can't afford to visit their own extended families in Mexico or somewhere else....

This is my stream-of-conscious for today...;)

Love to All!

Susan:love:

suzi I get what you are saying! Its hard since we can't even make ADR's and then bam LIFE hits you and planning can go by the way side. hang in there!

Oh and I forgot to mention that I have family in the Des Moines area, Urbandale/Ankeny ect.. Mosty my mom's family in that area. My dads family lives in Murry and Polk City. I haven't been back there in a LONG time. My parents are in IL and go back about once/twice a year.
