ALAMO STRIKES AGAIN!! and who owns national? ALAMO!!!!!!!

If I had a choice of renting them or a donkey, I'd pick the donkey.

I would say they had donkeys working for them except a donkey is a pretty smart animal.


I have been renting with Hertz for over 30 years and never had this problem.

As a matter of fact they are off site at MCO and I find it less of a hassle than on-site.

Update: Called National's 800# today... I briefly explained my plight & before I could ask for a refund the representative agreed that I should not have been charged for my spouse as an additional driver & gave me a refund for almost $90 ($8 per day plus tax)..... It's a great feeling when you are right!!!

Well..... here's another twist... If you were at a franchise location (which MCO is not) then ALL bets are off. My past expereince with rental car companies has been that "franchises are allowed to choose" those rules they will accept!!! (I have had this type of situation with National, Hertz and Budget at "franchise" locations)

Not really, but if it's a small airport you have a good shot it's a franchise. Also, most "local" places are franchises. If you want to know call the rental car company and ask, they will tell you.

The agent was beyond rude, actually snatching the rental agreement from me when I questioned the charge & saying she'd just cancel the reservation & I could go elsewhere

I don't understand why you didn't do so. National obviously didn't want your business; why give it to them?

Don't know for sure, but trying to get a decent rate without a previous reservation is almost non-existent. The rates are truly outrageous if you don't have a reservation, at least this is my experience.

Correct, my only other option was the Hertz counter next door (this is a VERY small airport)... I would have had to pay around $1000-$1200 for the same rental.
