So, just renewed my driver's license, and they spelled out my middle name.

I've always had my middle initial. Now, with the new "verified" system, they told me they want all ID's to match.

Problem is, I booked my flight 10 months ago with the spelling of my former DL (middle initial only). The nice lady said it shouldn't be a problem as my name's matched when I booked my ticket.

I'm going to take my old and new DL's when I fly next month. I hope she's right, but I am nervous...

Anybody experience this????

Just call the airline and have them add your middle name to the reservation. I've done that. When I booked my last round of flights, I just used my middle initial. I then applied for TSA precheck and you have to use your full name. So in order to make the TSA number match with my name on the tickets, I called the airline and had them add it. Pretty simple.

Just had this issue come up with a family member. They don't care about middle initial vs full middle name.

Call the airline and have your middle name added to your ticket.

DD was denied boarding this morning because her ID did not match. She was able to get on a later flight after the airline was persuaded to re-issue her ticket with her middle name included.

This was the first time she had this problem and she flys at least twice a month for work.

It really shouldn't be a problem but you can be safe and tell the airline just in case if you want.

For stupid Delta Airlines, my frequent flier account has Jane Doe Smith, but when I book a ticket, it auto-fills as Janedoe (one word) Smith. In other words, my name is not what my license says (license just says Jane D. Smith). Sometimes they do a doubletake but it's never held me up.

My license always had my middle name spelled out.

I must wonder about the competence of the DMV staff, however. When I was living in my apartment, my address was ## Cantrell Avenue, Apartment ##A (I just substituted the pound signs for the actual numbers). The woman who processed my license renewal INSISTED that my license needed to read ## Cntrll Ave U-##A. She insisted on removing the vowels in the street name and putting a U- in front of my apartment number. No amount of arguing that I did not live on Cntrll Ave and that my apartment number did not include a U- in front of it would sway her. So for five or so years my license and car title listed an address that wasn't mine and as far as I know does not exist.

This has been by exact experience. For whatever reason, Georgia spelled out my middle name on my driver's license when we moved here 11 years ago. It has been that way ever since. It is also spelled out on my passport. However, I only book tickets with my middle initial.

I am a fairly frequent flier. I fly to Europe 2-3 times a year and domestically at least another 6 times or so and have never even been asked about it.

Don´t worry but call the airline to change it if you are super concerned.

I called the airline (JetBlue). They couldn't have been nicer and spelled out my middle name. The rep. couldn't do it, she had to get a supervisor to override. She also said the TSA usually doesn't bother with middle names. Knowing my luck, I would have gotten one who did.

It's common with many airlines. The older systems do not recognize spaces so your first and middle names are joined.

It's well known and a non issue.

I've heard horror stories of TSA agents being extremely persnickety about situations like this. Like, the ticket says Jeremiah N Nakamura, but the guy's driver's license says Jeremiah Nebuchadnezzar Nakamura, and almost being denied boarding. Of course, 99 percent of the time the TSA guy is going to be too bored to care.

I don't think you will have an issue.

I am surprised that a state would even issue an Driver's license with just an initial. Way way back in the stone age when I was in law enforcement, that was one of the first tip offs to a fake ID, no middle name on it. Back when we used to do ID checks on people in bars when we were on a call there.

I once faced a similar situation at Walt Disney World.

I was entering the Magic Kingdom when security pulled me out of line and checked my ID. My drivers license had my middle name spelled out but the info connected to my magic band only had the initial.

I was immediately hustled to a small room in the bowels of the Magic Kingdom where I was beaten within an inch of my life by the 7-Dwarves and dumped out and left to die in the Reedy Creek irrigation system.

I survived by harvesting wild emu legs and drinking rain water from a refillable mug. After several grueling hours I made it back to civilization- an Econolodge in Kissimee, where I spent several days healing both mind and body by watching "The Khardashians" and drinking Mojitos.

It was a brutal experience. . . but other than that, it was a great vacation and I can't wait to go again next year!

My middle name has always been spelled out in full on my driver's license. I did have a flight that got booked once by someone else a few years ago and they put my nickname, no middle name and same last name on the dang ticket. I couldn't believe he didn't ask me what name to put on the airline ticket before he booked them (I was chaperoning a group of High Schoolers).

That was a mess to straighten out at the airport - luckily I found out there was going to be a problem a few weeks beforehand so I pulled out my birth certificate and grabbed a recent utility bill with my nickname on it to bring to the airport. I had to get it fixed at the airport according the airline person I spoke with online so that meant standing in the long customer service line for the airline. Blech.

I go by my middle name and my entire name was on my driver's license. When I got married I hyphenated and when I went to change my name on my DLs they couldn't fit my entire name. So, the put my first initial, my middle name, then my entire last name. When I fly they have my first name.

I have never been questioned when going through security. Never. For a while I was taking my passport as ID because it has my entire name. However, the TSA said I didn't have to bring my passport anymore and that the name thing is common.

Don't worry!

Great. Another thing for identity thieves to get: our full middle name.
