So just how bad is Everest?

I'm so tempted to try it, but fear motion sickness...I know it goes backwards...
I have never done Rock'n rollercoaster either.

I am definitely going to try Space Mountain for the first time when we go fourth of july weekend...Just trying to decide if we should give everest a go....any input?

Everest is my favorite of all the DisneyWorld coasters. It's not too bad. Yes, you go backwards, but not very far, and not very fast. Check youtube, I know that there are videos of the ride on there you can watch and see if it works for you.

Space Mountain is by far the scariest of the ones you mentioned. It's rough and in the dark, yet light enough to see that the oncoming track is like six inches above your head (not really, but it sure looks like it when you're flying around).

RnRC is smoother. Take off is intense, but then it's a very smooth ride. There is a loop, though.

Everest is the easiest of the three, in my opinion. It's the only one that my oldest has been on. More intense than BTMR, but a smoother ride.

Just make sure you keep your head back against the seat. I must not have done that the last time I rode it a few years ago and had a headache the rest of the day.

Thanks everyone...I'm such a chicken!
I enjoy TOT and Splash mountain, but the roller coasters scare me!!

For what it's worth (of course everyone's experience is different):

- Everest is the only one my son really disliked. (And I have to say I agree it seemed the most intense to me). Granted, it was our first coaster.

I agree with what the PP said about how Space Mountain is weird in that you can see the tracks right over you and Space Mountain bothered my daughter the most b/c she felt like she was about to fall out! (I could see how she felt that way - the walls to the cars are lower)

So it's different for everyone.

Having said that - I had no motion sickness problems on Everest. Mission Space orange made me a little wobbly the first time, but the second time (a different day, not right after) I was definitely queasy.

No motion sickness on any roller coaster at WDW for me...I adore RnR coaster but definitely wobble a bit after it. :)

I get motion sickness as well and I ride RnRC, TOT, Space mountain, but they all make me feel a bit yucky after and I can only ride them once each trip. However, Everest is not bad, I actually kinda like it! I like that it goes indoors and outdoors, smooth and scary fun! I love my families reaction when I ride with them :) They get so excited!

it just occurred to me what the key issue might have been for my son and I - Everest felt the most "out of control" - probably b/c of of how dark it was as you go backwards. RnR and Space Mountain are "dark" but not "as dark"

Everest is fast — high speed makes me black out temporarily, and it is the only Disney ride that ever has this effect on me. Much faster than Space.

But on the other hand, speaking as someone who wouldn't go near Everest for many, many years, it is now my favorite ride. It's both artistic and thrilling, and I think it's one of the best experiences Disney has to offer. The backwards portion does not go very fast (the fastest part is after the big drop) and is very short.

As for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, I took a friend on it last year who is terrified of roller coasters. She wouldn't do Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, or Everest. I lied and told her that it doesn't go upside down (despite what the signs say), and she rode it and loved it. She didn't even know it went upside down until I told her twenty minutes later. The beginning looks much worse than it actually is! Once you take off, you realize it's really not THAT fast, and there are no big or even slightly big drops. You can probably handle that one :)

You could look up videos on Youtube of the rides. That might help you decide if you want to ride them or not.

I used to be scared of roller coasters but over many trips I'm not. Space Mt. isn't exactly scary but it's so dark you don't see which way you're about to go and it seems to jerk you around. Rock n' RollerCoaster I love because I don't know how high up I am but you can see much better than Space Mt.. Love Expedition Everest. The backward part doesn't last long and for some reason I always giggle going backwards.

This year, for the first time ever, I rode Everest and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. I am not a roller coaster person, especially coasters that go upside down or have big drops. That being said, I loved them both! In fact, I would ride them many times over Space Mountain, which nearly did me in this year! On RnR, keep your head pushed back on the headrest and enjoy the ride!

So, you blacked out on Everest, but not on the much faster RnRC? That's weird.

EDIT: I don't mean that as a slight. Just one of those weird things.

I also suffer motion sickness and of all Disney coasters Everest is the worst for me. That's not to say I don't do it. I just make sure I take motion sickness meds that day.

I agree with an above poster with bracing your head on the seat, I also plant my feet hard against the seat in front of me so it adds a better brace. No headaches for me!

This happened to me too. My head somehow went between the two headrests and banged around. I had a huge headache. The backwards part is not very long.

It's definitely personal preference, and depends on what makes you sick. I love coasters, and can do RnR & Space over and over, but the backward motion on Everest makes me feel bad for quite awhile. I've tried it on 3 different trips, hoping it would change, but now I sit it out while DH rides.

I love roller coasters and was really looking forward to Everest, but it made me (and my DH) feel very dizzy and sick. :-( Even DS didn't want to ride it again!
It was the end of the day and we had eaten dinner about an hour before, but I just chalked it up to not being a teenager anymore and not handling thrill rides like I used to. I usually chew gum on spinning rides or carousels and didn't think to try that on a roller coaster....wouldn't want to choke!
FWIW, I rode Space Mtn 2X without issue, I'm not a fan of how rough it is, but DS loved it. Also rode BTMRR multiple times with no issue. DS is not quite 48" so no RnRC for us this trip.

Now that I'm older I tend to get motion sickness on some of the rides. Everest really makes me nauseous. Once we start to go backwards I'm done. It's too bad because I really like the ride but I just can't waste an entire day feeling sick just to give it another shot.

I get motion sickness pretty bad from watching shaky camera work or moving backwards. I did feel some slight sickness on everest but it passed quickly. I was totally fine by the time we got off. I wouldn't recommend riding with a full stomach. It's a really great ride though and I'd definitely go on again.

RnRC is really a short ride. My sister rode it with her teenaged son and never realized it went upside down until I told her months later. Lol!!

You can see from this thread that it's all personal. If you are okay with BTMRR, give EE a try!
