So, my DD has decided that for our trip in April she wants to do pin trading. I ordered a few lots of pins off of e-bay so that she would have some pins to start with. We will get her a starter laynard when we get there.

The question is, what to do with the pins after she starts collecting them? She's a packrat, and not very organized. I was thinking maybe a shadow box or something for the wall. Any ideas?:)

Be aware that many of the pins on eBay are what is called scrappers, they are pins that did not pass quality control or were overruns, there is the slight chance that if the CM knows or can tell the pin is "fake" they will not trade for it. Just an fyi for you.

Now to your question :) We have many sets, most of ours are framed and hang on our walls. Some of ours are simply stuck on cork boards and some we keep in our pin books for easy transport. :)

we did the shadow box the first time. we also put a Monorail driver card, a test track license, an Epcot passport and some unused fast passes in. it came out cute. Our dd had just turned 5 that trip so it was a neat way for her and her friends to look at her souvenirs with their eyes instead of their hands KWIM.

Go to dizpinsboards, click on the forums, then go to the Pin Gallery, and you'll find lots of ideas there. It's another board, so I think it's against the rules to link it. I hope I'm not breaking rule by posting this. :)

I recently did what is shown on someones pin trading blog HERE with some old wooden frames we had laying around. I found the rest of the materials at Walmart in the sewing/crafting section. The dizpins site has even more creative ideas, but the framing technique shown in the blog above is easy enough to do.

DS loves his new pin display. :-)

Hey, I think you stole my daughter!!!! :rotfl: Sounds just like her, she even started collecting the pins on the last day of our last trip. For now, they just hang on her lanyard. It's completely full, but until our next trip, I'm just going to leave it at that, then I'll probably make some sort of display for the wall for her.
Good luck, and hope ya'll have a great trip!

Thanks for the tips guys. I don't think that I am going to need to worry about the e-bay pins. My daughter is going to want to keep all of those too! Hopefully they will keep her from spending too much on pins while we are there.;)

My daughter bought a book one year while we were at Disney where you can pin your pins to each page. She keeps some on her lanyard and the rest in her book.

I bought a lot of pins on Ebay and they were great. All were pins already traded with cast members and I had no problems at all trading them while we were there. I think it depends on who you buy them from, the seller I used had perfect feedback.:) Pin trading was a lot of fun!:)

Oh yes, the books...LOL DD12 has 3, DD9 has 2, I have 1 and DBF has one as well. We keep some of our pins in our books. :) We actually cut pieces of cork board and slide them in between the pages of the books, that way we can just stick the pins in and pop them out if/when we need to. :) DBF actually carries his in the parks with him (yes, he's one of those "scary" traders, you know, the kind who loves to trade with kids and help people finish sets lol), makes for easier trading. :)

It does depend but sometimes the seller will have great feedback because the buyers don't really know what scrappers are and how to spot them. Not saying this is the case with you, just saying because I too was guilty of that myself. :) I do know of a few sellers who seem to be very good. I'd love to know who you bought from if you wouldn't mind sharing. :) Would you mind PMing me with the ID?

I bought a Mickey Head shaped black corkboard at the Disney Market Place kitchen store. It works perfect and is sooooo cute with the pins added onto it. I think it was around $15.
