So...Is This True???

I am sure it can be true, but it's sort of useless information for pregnant women because it's not true often enough to mean it can be counted on.

So, you could go into labor, or you might not. Neither would be a huge shocker to your doctor. How's that for an answer? ;)

Almost half of all women go into labor within a week of a full moon.

Full moon, and eggplant do the trick! Seriously, go out to a nice Italian place tonight and have eggplant parmesan. There's one Atlanta restaurant that has a huge picture board up in its lobby of all the babies born within 24 hours of mama eating the eggplant parmesan. The babies get a free baby t-shirt with the restaurant's name on it.

Good luck!

The reasoon this old wives tale exists is the same reason the tale about people going mad on the night of the full moon exists. When there's a beautiful full moon out, like there is right now, people are more likely to be awake and active at night. This is especially true in less developed societies with little or no electric lighting. Combine this with the fact that, in general, mammals prefer to birth at night when it's easier to hide a female's complete vulnerability during labor and their bodies are designed to accomodate this. Now, you're up late...walking around or having intimate relations (which if nothing else will widen the passageway)...at a time when you're already primed for birth....viola!

So, my suggestion?

Have a glass of wine tonight with your husband (it's not going to hurt anything at this stage, but it will relax your muscles). Go for a walk in the moonlight. Try to have some intimate relations. And then pray for labor to begin, because these actions are still just about as likely to induce as anything else.

Best of luck.

I'm so offended by your........

siggy! bet you thought i was offended by something else! :lmao: Go Bucks!

i just know that when i worked in housekeeping at a large hospital we always had extra staff assigned to labor and delivery whenever there was a full moon. the number of admissions and births went up every time.

The only thing thats caused me to go into labor is pitocin

Twice.

First time at 42 weeks...hang in there!

Nobody knows what it is exactly that triggers labor. But if it were a full moon, no baby would ever be born because their mothers would have been in labor much earlier in the pregnancy. Whatever it IS that triggers labor...it isn't the moon.

Some people swear that some serious Whoopie will do the trick. I dunno.

Having "relations" helps too, even walking. Have fun and I hope the baby comes soon.

yes, it is true, but it is also true that if it happens during a full moon, the kid will have tendencies to howl. it is true, and i am going to write a thesis on this, so everybody can just back off.

Ok, I admit to a certain amount of ignorance being a lifelong lesbian and all....but if the baby has turned and is head down, wouldn't that give the poor child a concussion? ;)

it is true, but they all come on their own time schedule, so just because it is a full moon does not mean this one will appear now

Only if the baby is about to come out and by then I think she'd be at the hospital ready to push and not in any mood for relations.

L&D nurse here and "YES" we always watched our calender in L&D because we over flow with patients. WE have had patiece laboring in the hallways till rooms were available in other hospitals. The other hospitals also get full.

don't worry we have never had them in the hallways for very long. Most of the time the patients would just walk all over the hallways saying Hi to each other and laughing at all the others in the same situation.

This does not happen every time but depending on the time of year..seems that many woman get preg. in the winter months so the summer/fall can be a little more busier for us.

Do a lot of walking....walking and walking....and than walk again:thumbsup2

Have a great Delivery and congratulations:woohoo:

No but to put into perspective...a baby's birth is much harder on the baby than on the mom. Coming into position in the birth canal is very hard work and being born is no piece of cake either.

So moms the next time that you are laboring remember....it's a piece of cake for you compared to your baby... always nice to know that you and your baby are going through it together and that neither of you are alone....

After all the baby's that I have delivered it is always a miracle to me...childbirth that is...it always amazes me. Even after 22 years on being a Labor and Delivery Nurse the miracle of childbirth is miraculous!!!
