Ok, I will try and make this very short. First let me say that I don't need anyone responding with "must be nice" type comments. I am not bragging or shoving anything in anyones faces. This is just fact.

Ok, that said, here we go. I applied for a Disney CC a couple of weeks ago. My husband and I thought that we would change from our current credit card to the Disney one. Please note that I only have one visa card at a time. That is just the way I like it. When my card came I looked at my credit limit and it said $3000.00. What? Not going to cut it. So I called and asked to please have my credit limit raised to what my current CC limit is. $13,500. I was told that they had to once again tap into my credit reports to see. I said fine and went about my day. Well I just checked and they raised my credit limit alright. To a whopping $5000.00! So I called and asked why exactly I did not get the credit limit I asked for. The girl said that the notes said that I did not qualify for anything I higher. Are you kidding? I am not going to say how much I make a year but it is obviously enough for my Wells Fargo Visa to give me a $13,500 credit limit! And my only debit is my house and a home equity loan not to mention I have perfect credit. So I just told the girl to cancel my account immediately. I was so mad I could have spit nails!

I was planning on caneling the WF credit card when I got the Disney one but that would be stupid!

Anyway, I just had to vent because I think it is crazy that they will give people who are in debt hundreds of CC's but when a person with perfect credit rolls around they snub us. NICE!

That's actually pretty normal.

Just because you have other outstanding credit, and adequate income, does not mean a CC company is going to give you a 5-figure credit limit off the bat.

I'm sure if you used the card regularly for a few months, made regular payments, that within 6 months they'd be much more willing to raise the limit to something you want.

Of course, this whole processs of the multiple credit inquiries and then cancelling the card isn't going to help your credit score and your ability to get another card with a very high limit.

There is only one problem. We spend more than that on our credit card per month. And what if I wanted to put a big purchase on it? Not enough credit on there for that either. So I guess I will just stick with my Wells Fargo one. It seems to be just fine. I understand to a point what your saying. I guess it just seems crazy to me.

If I read your post correctly, you have no debt other than on your home. Therefore, why would you need a large credit limit on a credit card? Since you must be paying in full every month, no large limit should be needed.

Just wondering.

I was offered a United Mileage Plus VISA credit card, which I accepted only to get the additional miles. When it arrived, my credit limit was only about $5000. They said it was because I had another VISA (my Disney VISA, and both were through Chase). It didn't bother me because I only applied for the United CC to get the extra miles. I'll be canceling it before the year is out.

It appears that's a pretty standard situation.

Chase starts you out pretty conservative but will raise your limits pretty well. To larger limits you need to usually have a couple visas with those high limits and low balance. this isn't that unusal for someone who doesn't have a lot of credit...which you mentioned.
also you mentioned you bank with WF...that makes a difference. you are their preferred customer.

hope this helps. Chase isn't that great of a card anyway. They tend to rate jack a lot. for example...lets say you charged your other card up to the limit one month (and you are planning on paying it off)....if Chase reviews your credit and sees you maxed they may decide to raise your interest rate and they won't lower it again for months. can you tell I have had experience with them. :)

I agree it does not go by how much you make but how well THEY feel you will pay or can make the payments. I never get offended by what a credit card company offers me and I have been given 5,000.00 limits but I know I will never cahrge that amont and I usual just use some of these card for a special offer or if the card suits my needs. all of the credit cards I presently have are 25,000 or higher limits except Home Depot which is 20,000 (i buy a lot of paint) I won't tell you what I make either :bounce:
but I will tell you if I charged 25,000 they would not het the $ for a while having it and truly affording it are two different things....
My advice is if the card suits your needs than use it....

Mine usually start low and increase. My new ones never start as high as my old ones. I pay off every month. I have a Disney card but usually use my Delta American Express because the miles are more valuable to me than the Disney dollars.

We use our credit cards for large purchases as well as little ones. If I am going to Best Buy and buying a plasma HDTV, I am putting it on my CC for the points. I have the money for it and will pay it off right away, but I want the points for it. So unless my limit is high enough to purchse those types of items, it is pretty useless to me.

If I said I had no credit in a previous post I was mistaken. I meant that I have no debt besides my home and home equity loan. I have plenty of credit. Hope that clears things up.

Can I please ask you to repost this? Maybe it is me but I cannot seem to make sense of this. I was into your post up until this point! :rotfl:

Ahh, I opened a CC (same company as Disney offers theirs) with a zero % interest rate. Carried no monthly chargable balances on this card, paid off the balance each month. We had our house robbed, talking walked in our bedroom while we were in bed in the middle of the night robbed...got my purse and our 43" plasma tv (dh more upset about that, it was the weekend before the Superbowl). I pay my bills online....the payment to this credit card company (same as Disney) bounced. When I found out, I CALLED THEM, faxed over police reports, case #'s, gave them an immediate payment from another account I had. A month later, they started charging me interest!!!!!
The reason?!? Because my one payment bounced because our home was robbed and my purse was stolen and I had to close my checking accts!!!!! You can bet your bippy that my response to this CC company was to immediately close the acct-they can stuff their card where the sun doesn't shine!!! Do they care? Na.....Did I hurt their business? Na...but made me feel better. My advice to you! Don't even start with them.

Hmmm :surfweb:

I applied for a Disney Visa in 2004 and got it - and a $10,000 credit limit to boot. But we tend to have several credit cards, tho generally they are all paid off each month - and at least 2 of them have credit limits of 10K plus

Both hubby and I have credit scores in the 780 range - perhaps that has something to do with it? cause we sure don't earn all that much :lmao:

Thanks Debbie! I think that you get what I am trying to say here. It is like you try and do everything right and you still get screwed anyway.

I cannot believe that they did that to you! You were robbed for godsake! :sad2: Your right, it probably did not hurt them one bit to lose my business or yours. But it feels good to tell them to shove it and you will take your business elsewhere.

My Disney card started at 3500. After just 1 year its now at 15000. so they will increase it. At least that was my case. Love the card, once took 1200 points on the Disney Cruise (400 drinks 400 gifts etc the rest excursions) :cool1:

That is really strange that you got that. My credit is near perfect so my credit was not the problem. And I was also told by someone else that used to work at a CC company that it is BECAUSE I have another card that has such a high credit limit that they refused me.

Now that totally is the opposite of what your telling me. :sad2: I just wish that I had an answer from them. When you tell me I don't "qualify" then yes, I am offended.

To the OP, I would contact the credit companies and get a copy of your report and score. I have several CCs, all of them have at least $10K, some much higher, and they are paid in full 99% of the time. Disney Visa (Chase) must be seeing something on your report to trigger the lower limit.

BTW, I've had a Chase card for years with no problems at all.

Maybe there is something to do with the Home equity loan that is triggering a concern on your credit report.

My spouse and I have had an Alaska Air Credit card for 20+ years.
Credit Limit is 23,500. Opened another for other perks probably 5 years ago, limit is 19,500. Closed the newer card because we decided didn't like it.
Have never had a late payment. Always pay in full.
Opened Disney card last year. Limit is 4,500. WTH!
Have had it over a year. Use it religiously now for our upcoming trip.
Always pay off. Charge probably between 3-4 thousand a month.
Still haven't had the limit raised.
I agree with the original poster. I think they only want to give out so many points.

you had no history with them. I had stellar credit and while I cant recall what my limit was when I first got it, It was likely only around 5000, last year I asked them to up it to 8, and this past may I asked them to up it to 18K. Charged my DVC purchase with it

I used to rarely use credit cards at all, but with the disney reward system I now try and charge everything I can. I always pay it off immediately, but if I can get a little something extra from the purchases I already make why not.
