My husband and I (no kids) will be moving to Pittsburgh in the new year. We won't know anyone... Any tips for making friends?

Well, let me be the first to welcome you to our city. We're a pretty friendly bunch. Best way to meet people here is the same as anywhere else. Get out there. :)

You'll meet people through work. One (or more) of your new neighbors will more than likely drop by with a baked good (or a six pack). Join a gym, bowling league, softball team......volunteer......go to church......stop by the local watering hole. We've got a ton of things to do here. There's really something for everyone and we're some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. It won't take long at all before someone comes over to you and introduces themselves. :flower3:

Easy. Just tell them you're from Cleveland. Just kidding. Good luck with your move.:)

Hello from another Pittsburgh resident! I agree with Tink888...many places to meet new people here!

What are will you be moving to? We are in the South Hills!

Welcome to our city.

Put on a Steeler jersey & you'll have new friends everywhere you go :thumbsup2

Join the Pittsburgh Jimmy Buffet Fan Club. Great parties, fund raisers, community events. I know more people in Pitt than my sister who has lived there for years. They organizers are based in Bridgeville and Robinson Town Center but have people all over the city. Check out Phlocking dot com for a little more info. That's just for their one big event but it has links and contacts. Best group in the world.

I thought I was going to have the same problem with moving to FL but when we went down to visit the area an the community we are going to live in the very 1st day I met a lady at the pool that I think we will become good friends....we have different lifestyles in a way but some very common interests.

PP's are right you not going to meet many by staying at home watching TV get out there an mingle doing the things you enjoy an you should soon meet ppl you want to be friends with.

Myself i won't be working so it is up to ME to make friends I was lucky got to spend 2 full weeks visiting my new neighborhood (community) found most was very friendly. I'm moveing almost 1,000 miles my new home needs some yard work a few flowers here an there mostly an I plan to get out an walk the community check out the flowers others are growing see what is doing well what isn't an ask neighbors about their flowers kind they are, how hard to grow etc I'm sure I'll make a friend or 2 that way along with getting some starts of flowers;)

My DH and I belonged to this before we had kids. I agree - it's a great group of people and lots of fun. I miss getting out to see Tom Watt on a regular basis, but it's so hard now that we have kids and are farther out of the city.

Welcome to Pittsburgh. Where Black and Gold, get a Pittsburghese dictionary. Our native dialect is just a little different. We say pop, gumbands and redd up. Translation upon request.

WELCOME! Pittsburgh is a pretty friendly place ... :goodvibes

I love to take Community Education classes through CCAC (Community College of Allegheny County). They have classes on just about anything you can think of and are pretty cheap.

Another idea is to volunteer. We have a lovely zoo, many hospitals, a food bank, museums ... all of which utilize volunteers.

When dd moved recently, no neighbors came over ... so ... she baked several batches of cookies then went knocking on doors and introduced herself all around the neighborhood. She left a ziploc bag full of cookies at each house.
AND one elderly gent offered to bring in her garbage can every week after pick-up. She's really tickled about that
