And I'm wondering whether a 17-55mm on a 60D is going to be wide enough...

Is there a place in Los Angeles to rent a 10-22mm or should I just bite the bullet and buy the beast (I've been thinkning about it already).

It's more than wide enough. The rooms are all large enough that there is really no need for a 10-22. Now that there's a 6D out, I bet 10-22s will go down in price on the secondary markets, so I'd wait a bit if you really want a 10-22.

I've always used a combo of a UWA and a fast prime when in there. There's plenty of light in there during lunch hours, but at night, I think you'll want a f/1.8 or f/1.4.

I'll be going to lunch this Sunday - so plenty of light sounds good since I'm actually on a business trip (training class in Northern CA) and buying 2 lenses would make the family CFO VERY grumpy (buying one will only earn me a frown :-).

I had plans to go to DL at the end of this trip so I've got much of my camera gear with me - but not my f1.8 prime.

I do have my external flash - is that too much or are they used to fanatics there?

That should be plenty wide enough. There are lots of little details to take in so you're more interested in close-ups than wide vistas.

Don't forget to go outside on the balcony and take pictures from the 2nd floor of New Orleans Square.

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 - partly since a nearby Best Buy had it for $759.

What a HOOT! This is going to be a fun lense...you can get right up next to a subject and get everything in the frame.

Looking forward to a really fun weekend now.
