As for what happened, I think you are partly to blame. Even you said you were too lazy to pick up the wood when you knew it was there. And yes puppies are curious but they can't be curious if there is nothing for them to get into. However, I do think your family is acting very childish. As for you paying the medical bills, I think that is a nice thing of you to do. =]
