I've been goofing around in Googlemaps for walking distances. It is still under beta testing and all routes aren't available, but it does seem like even taking the route from PPH, north to the end of DTD by ESPN Zone and walking to DL that way, is still shorter than walking out of Epcot. The route through the Grand Californian would be even shorter than that.

That was a very helpful link to Mouseplanet.
We are visiting in February and I looked at a lot of hotel options before settling on Anaheim Desert Inn. The DLR hotels are just too pricey for what you get. I like a microwave in addition to the minifridge in the room to save on food costs. I only seriously considered hotels along Harbor that are in easy walking distance. Google Earth gives you a very good visual on the location of hotels in relation to the parks. At WDW last February we were able to use handicap parking area and it was still a bit of a walk to the front gate of each park. WDW is much more work to navigate because it is so large. I am looking forward to being able to go back to the room if we need a rest or knowing it is just a short walk back at the end of a great day in the parks.
