They know how to work the crowd but it's SO over the top and cliché. I've seen them about a dozen times, and the only time I truly enjoyed them was in a small club at the end of the touring run for SSU. It was a private show. No pyro. No huge light show. Great songs, and a really intimate atmosphere that wasn't deafening.

Why do bands have to go so over-the-top with the lights and effects? And they were LOUD! It detracts from the show rather than adding to it IMHO.

My husband loves NB, so we listen to them quite a bit. I love the song "Rock Star", but I admit I blush a bit when I listen to "Animal"!

I'm more of an 80's metal girl...give me Ozzy (or go back further in time and give me some Sabbath). I wish I had been old enough to see Ozzy in his really wild days. Crazy old man! popcorn::

I love reading your posts ducklite...I'm living vicariously through you! :cool1:

We saw them 2 weeks ago with Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin (we missed BB because we were stuck in mega-traffic). It was the first "grown up" type concert for my kids. (they've thankfully grown out of the Hilary Duff era) It was the first rock concert I've been to in a while (I am now officially OLD). I enjoy their music and thought they sounded pretty good BUT the schtick in between songs was a bit much. And don't even get me started about the liberal use of the major swears! I'm no prude but, geez....f-bombs all over the place! My older daughter really loved the show and at one point she turned to me and said, "Thanks, Mom--this is really awesome!" Ok, so it was worth it!
And, I really didn't think they were too loud--I brought ear plugs just in case but I didn't use them.
Anne--I so enjoy your insights into today's music. Thanks for sharing.

When you saw them did Ben Burnley get up and sing with 3DG? Last night Adam came onstage during BB's set and sang "Dance With the Devil", and then Ben came out during the 3DG set and sang "Take Me Under" with them, which I thought was particularly poignant given both Adam and Ben have both recently completed stints in rehab. I was amazed at how good they sounded with each other's bands. Actually both singers sounded so healthy!

I've had the not so good fortune of seeing both bands the day before and a week before each of the singers entered rehab, and needless to say both were disappointing sets. (Having seen both bands more than two dozen times each, I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. :sad2: )

I'm going to work on the photo's tonight. I took about 1200 between the three bands! Unfortunately we were really, really restricted as to where we could shoot from, so :confused3 on how hey came out. And I didn't get any of Timmy, which sucks because he's a cutie-patootie! ;)

I think I'm desensitized to the F-Bombs. The last show that made me cringe was Dir En Grey--a Japanese Metal Band into self-injury with a very negative current in thier lyrics. I left during the second song, I found it terribly disturbing that the entire audience for this "message" was 15 year old girls.

Yes, he did come out and sing with them. I'm not a huge fan of either but I did think that Burnley sounded a little better, not so "raw".

Yeah, Ben's got a slightly deeper and more resonant timbre to his voice. Adam tends to sing from his throat, which damages it. Both of them need to stop smoking or they're going to run into serious problems down the road. The one thing Adam's got is Neil, who sings backup and does a great job of covering Adam's butt when he blows his throat out. ;)

I'm with you on the preference for the smaller shows - the musicians can really showcase their true talents then instead of having to be part of a circus event type of show. I think the promoters just want things so over the top because they think that is what the fans want.

NB was here not too long ago and DD13 begged to go but I didnt have any connections to get tickets and honestly didnt care to go to a noisy venue if I wasnt working.

Looking forward to the new signature pix, Anne.

Promoters don't have anything to say about how the show looks or sounds. The band decides if they want low key or over the top.

I have seen them when thery played at Hard rock in Orlando and my dd and i were right up in front , Alice in Chains was with them , And then i seen the In Cincy with 3 Days Grace and 3 doors down. Really good concert. One of my favorite bands , when My dd was doing the thing on the road runner street team she won an autograph picture of the band. Plus she caught a drum stick at the hard rock from their concert there too. But I agree i like the smaller shows!
