So I got scrappers now what?

You can usually tell scrappers by the colors, by the backstamp (I have a Small World kid that says 5 of 6 and it's actually a 6 of 6), by the way it's actually cut.....there are tells and once you get a little more experienced you will learn what they are. :)

Heres a picture of the suspected scrapper. This pin is set for a release sometime this week. I got it in a "lot" last week.

That pin is so cute! I just bought it from Disney shopping!

I'm new to checking out scrappers, as I've only known about them for a few months.

I'm thinking the pin above is probably a fake.

Go to the Disney one: http://www.disneystore.com/world-of-disney-puppet-pal-series-dopey-pin/p/1246535/14758/ and zoom into Dopey's hat. The metal separaters on the Disney site are clean and thin, while the ones above have a thicker blotchier look to them and appear to be closer together.

The pin above looks good, which I think is how the scrappers get away with this.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The metal part is what I looked closely at before trading some of the pins I had before my trip.

I don't know TammyLynn, it's still hard to tell, I'd have to see them side by side to really tell. What catches my attention is the skin color difference, a lot of times that's the olny way I can tell....

Two things that jump out for me are on the back. First it says 2005 when we know it was just released in 2009. Second is the Limited Edition 250 stamp. Its not a clean cut and shows scuffs (inside the square)...also are LE pins individually numbered?

See I can't tell that it says 2005 from the photo but yes, if it says that then it's definitely a scrapper because these just came out.

And no, usually they are not individually numbered, I do have some really really nice Alison LefCourt Tinkerbell pins that ARE individually numbered but most LEs just say LE and the edition size on the back.

As for the scuffs, that happens, I just got 5 brand new pins from Disney Shopping yesterday and a couple of them have little scuffs/dings on the backs.

I'm so glad I found this thread! OP, sorry to hijack!

My DMother bought pins from a recomended seller here (75 pins). I looked them up on pinpics and 6 or 7 are definite scrappers. There are about 10 - 12 more that are suspicious.

These are for my kids to start trading in WDW. My plan is to let the kids have any of them they like for "keepers" but what to do with the others? I'm pretty sure I could return the clear scrappers, but what do I do with the others? Am I looking them up on the right site? 4 of them I couldn't find at all.

WWYD??:confused3

I am not thinking the pin shown on the Disney site is a real pin. I think it is just a drawing.

Contact your seller, let them know that the scrapper margin is too high and you'd like replacements sent or a refund. See what they say.
Pinpics is the most comprehensive site but it not affiliated with Disney, it's run by individuals and thus all information is personal experience. Good luck with your seller!

If you can not get something done through the seller, then go through PayPal to get your money back. I'll have to go find what my mom was reading, but she was telling me earlier ebay has this policy (can't remember if it's a new one or not) that if you buy something that the seller "claims" to be authentic and it isn't, they ask you to destroy the item and you will get a refund of your money. My mom is a Power Seller on ebay and keeps up with things like that. You don't even have to provide proof that it is a fake. I'm just assuming that since PayPal is owned by ebay and the change of funds went through it, that is where you would want to start. If you don't get the response that you want out of the seller, go to PayPal and open a dispute with the reason being the merchandise that was claiming to be authentic is actually fake.

Actually this is not always true. I always thought I was protected thru Paypal but I was not!! I received scrappers (very incorrect backstamp) from 2 sellers and told them, they both ignored my attempts at contact so I filed with Paypal. Paypal sided with the seller and I did not receive a refund. I also had a nonreceived package and Paypal didn't help me, I had to contact my credit card company for that one. The scrapper transactions, I had NO recourse and I was out $50.

How long ago was that? From what I can tell this is a new policy.

Ummm, I don't remember exactly but I'm guessing about 6-9 months ago. Not over a year and I did call Paypal and complain because the items were described as legit and were not. Nope, they still wouldn't budge.......

I think that where the sellers get their leeway is that they say that the pins are 'tradeable' in the parks. Unless a CM turns away your trade, their listing is correct. From what I can tell, none of the listings guarantee that they are not scrappers or that they are authentic Disney pins.

Really, even the honest sellers couldn't say with certainty that their pins are authentic unless they bought them in the parks directly. Even trading off CM lanyards doesn't mean they are 'real'.

I wonder if that was how the seller got out of paying you back.

On the positive side, I've had 2 sellers who I suspected scrappers from. One refunded my money before sending the pins because they weren't able to tell me with certainty that their pins were authentic. The other swapped out my 8 suspect pins and paid for shipping each way.

I still ended up with a handful that I don't feel comfortable trading, but I'm ok with keeping them.

I think you are correct TammyLynn, Paypal told me "technically they didn't tell you they were guaranteed authentic" or some other garbage like that. Either way I was out my money and I won't ever buy from those particular sellers again. I have had a couple of sellers offer to refund me as well and I had one who sent me 10 replacement pins on his dime because I'd received so many scrappers. In that instance I sent him detailed photos with the scrappers next to the "real" pins I had received from CMs. I'm much more cautious now when I buy from eBay.
