We have not personally heard from our guide since we joined Jan. 2005. We know he is still there because the solicitation mailings and e-mails have his name on them.
1) Remember, "guides" are timeshare salespersons.
2) They are employed to sell DVC points.
3) Part of their job is to call you and try to GENTLY push more points.
4) They just don't sit in the center and wait for people to come in and buy.
5) They have to make efforts to sell.
6) If they don't make enough SOD calls, they can be terminated. *
7) Plus, if their closing ratios/numbers are poor, they can be terminated.
* SOD stands for "Spin Of the Dial", in other words, making phone calls.
We have never heard from out guide..we joined on one of our Disney Cruises...maybe that's why? Never got a call, card, nada. I didn't know that guides were supposed to keep up with their clients - now I feel very kinda sad
I forget who my original guide was from 2002. She left several years ago. My current guide (assigned to me) calls me on most DVC trips and leaves messages to see how things are (i.e., see if I want to add on points).
Wow, we love our guide. She has called us on EVERY trip we have booked with vacation points to welcome us home, ask how we like our accommodations, and make sure we are having a great time.
Our guide is Nick. He has never called us at home, but has called us every time we have stayed with points. I think it is cool!! I love being welcomed "home" each trip.
I've never received a call from my guide at Disney. I did however get a call welcoming another couple home on their first DVC trip; it came too early in the am, and we hadn't yet checked out of the VWL studio (July 2008), so for someone else out there you did get a call.

This is the same for us too! Our guide also calls us during every trip (5-6 times a year). Also calls my daughter when she is traveling on our points too. She is very accessible to my needs and questions (and sometimes complaints). I could not have gotten a better guide. Member for only 4 1/2 years, but my referring friends have been members for 10 years and still are happy with "our" guide too!
Since we always stay around the holidays, our guide, Judy, usually gives us a call after the new year to make sure everything went well. We never knew it was common practice until it happened more than once!
I have to admit that my sole complaint with DVC has been my guide. After my initial contract I have added on three times. The first add-on he helped me with, the second and third were done on the Member Cruise and at an event in Boston. Over the years I have called him about questions I have had, about promotions, etc., and he has never once returned a call or email. I find this amazing, given that I have bought 700 points through him, directly or indirectly. Finally, he has never called to leave a message for us during our trips. In fact, I once had a question about seeing the model rooms when I was there and one of the advance people at the hotel called him for me. I thought he would at least talk to me for a second to say hello. But no!
When we were at WDW in January I met someone at DHS DVS booth but never went to a meeting or showing. We got a phone call from a DVC Rep when we got back home and he sent out info to us but we never purchased. Last month we went to the Doorway to Dreams at Woodfield mall and decided that we were going to go through with it, but felt bad because the woman who helped us was great but she had to split the commision with the original guy because he contacted us first. Her name was Diane and she was very good.
